OK, I know I’m late to the party on this, but as a photographer I want to comment on Donald Trump’s new official photo (below).
Three things jump out at me:
1. He looks totally PO’d like he is about to rip your throat out. This expression is clearly intentional and pre-meditated.
2. The under-face/side-face lighting is something photographers use on portraits to deliberately create a disturbing sense of menace and/or uneasiness.
3. The American flag on his lapel has clearly been isolated in Photoshop with its brightness enhanced, so it jumps off the photo like an electric shock. As your eyes naturally trace the lighting from left to right, it’s the last thing you linger on.
So think about this.
This photo will hang in every federal government and military office in America.
Trump remembers the “Resistance.”
This photo is carefully crafted to send a message to every federal employee and service member:
“Do what the American people sent me to do or I will rip your throat out.”
