“It seems that the third week in April has become our time of calamity.”
Rather shockingly, those are the stark words of The Washington Post on April 19th, 2013 specifically referencing the 7-day period between April 14th through April 20th. A week, that history has come to show, harbors some of the worst catastrophes in US history. While it only covers 2% of the year, there are 18 different events that span this tragic time. The question is, however, will something “tragic” happen again during this 7 day period?

- April 18th, 1906, the San Francisco Earthquake, over 3,000 people died.
- April 14th, 1911, Titanic sinking, 1,503 people died on April 15th.
- April 20th, 1914, the Ludlow Massacre in Colorado, 39 people died.
- April 15th, 1927, the great Mississippi Flood, 246 people killed.
- April 14th, Black Sunday Dust Bowl, hundreds of thousands relocated.
- April 16, 1947, Port of Texas City explosion, 581 died.
- April 18th, 1955, Albert Einstein died.
- April 17-19, 1961, The Bay of Pigs, 1,100 prisoners taken and 114 killed.
- April 18th, 1983, US Embassy Bombing In Beirut, 63 people died, 17 American’s included.
- April 19th, 1989, USS Iowa explosion, 47 seamen dead.
