On Tuesday the streets of Santiago, Chile became a battleground between students and riot police during the demonstration against the government’s proposed ‘Law on State Universities’, which was introduced by Education Committee of the lower house of Chile’s Congress. According to the Chilean government, the law implies favorable changes to the government financing of public education as well as the institutional system of the universities and rules of employment, however the protesting students argue that the law might become harmful for public education.
