Rostov Arena is located on the left bank of the Don River, where it has been constructed on a special ‘sand cushion’, and its design is very much in keeping with the theme of water. As with the construction of Volgograd Arena, several remnants from World War II battles fought in the areas were uncovered.
The stadium will host group stage games at the World Cup, as well as one of the Round of 16 games.
After the tournament, it will become the venue for home games of local team FC Rostov, a club which has featured in top-level European competition in recent years.
