Russian palaeontologists discovered an ancient whale skeleton while planning infrastructure for the Crimean bridge in the Kerch Peninsula. According to one of the researchers, representative from the local Zoological Museum Dmitri Startsev, these fossils ‘have been hidden for 10mn years.’ Such animals used to inhabit the Sarmat Sea, which used to cover the Kerch peninsula millions of years ago.
