Erected, defaced, removed: Erdogan golden statue taken away from German city

The four-meter (13 feet) golden statue of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was removed from Wiesbaden on Tuesday, as according to local authorities “security could no longer be guaranteed.’

The statue was erected in the city’s German Unity Square (Platz der Deutschen Einheit) as part of an art installation, stirring some commotion amid Erdogan supporters and opponents.
