Clashes between French police and protesters in Paris have continued into the night on Saturday after a day of demonstrations against rising fuel taxes and Emmanuel Macron’s presidency.

Police in the capital used tear gas and water cannons to disperse protesters who burned barricades they had set up on the Champs-Elysees and pelted them with objects.
