Justice is blind… & topless? FEMEN protest proposed rape law changes

Four topless FEMEN activists protested against proposed changes in the way the French legal system handles cases of rape outside the seat of the French Senate in Paris on Tuesday.

Activists dressed in costume as ‘Lady Justice,’ wearing blindfolds and holding swords and scales. The women had slogans written on their chests reading “blind justice” and “rape is not a small crime.”

The brief protest ended without arrests as the activists fled, still in costume, before police appeared.

The French Senate is currently voting on a range of legal reforms that include provisions which would see many cases of rape and sexual assault categorized as minor crimes that would be investigated by tribunals without juries. The government claims that the reforms are intended to speed up the judicial process.
