Several homes have collapsed into floodwaters and thousands of people were displaced in the past several days. Some of the most heartbreaking losses were of historic buildings and landmarks.

According to Chinese state-run media, the rain and floods have already washed away several century-old bridges and destroyed numerous ancient palaces, including Dragon and Tiger Hall—a famous Taoist shrine on Wudang Mountain.
