A netizen posted a video explaining that local ethnic Mongolians are terrified and have held rituals to repent and pray for blessings.

On Aug. 8, a massive sandstorm hit Bayannur, located in Inner Mongolia. The following day, a tornado swept through Xilamuren Grassland—a famous Mongolian-themed summer resort—destroying more than 150 yurts to the ground and injuring 33 people. On the same day, the capital city of Baotou suffered both a tornado and hail.
