History of the Knights Templar and their connection to France ⚔️

The Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon (Knights Templar) were founded around 1119 in Jerusalem by Hugues de Payens and a small group of knights after the First Crusade.

Their initial purpose was to protect Christian pilgrims traveling to the Holy Land. They received formal recognition from the Church, combined monastic vows with military duties, and grew rapidly in wealth, land, and influence across Europe and the Near East.

France was a primary recruiting ground and base of operations; the order developed extensive properties there and performed early banking and fund-transfer functions that made them useful (and eventually creditors) to royalty.

After the fall of the last major Crusader stronghold at Acre in 1291, the order’s original military rationale weakened. Their remaining wealth, autonomy, and privileges generated resentment. King Philip IV of France (“Philip the Fair”) was heavily in debt to the Templars 👈 amid costly wars and efforts to strengthen royal power.

On the morning of Friday, October 13, 1307, King Philip who was heavily in debt to the Templars ordered the simultaneous arrest of them throughout France, including Grand Master Jacques de Molay in Paris.

The made up charges included heresy, blasphemy, denying Christ, idolatry (including claims involving a figure or head called Baphomet), and sexual misconduct during initiation rites. The illuminati always mirrors what they do on their advisory and are still doing this to this day!

Many false confessions were obtained under torture.👈

Pope Clement V (a French pope under significant pressure from Philip) initially resisted but eventually ordered broader arrests.

After years of trials, the order was formally suppressed by papal decree in 1312 at the Council of Vienne.

Most remaining assets were transferred to the Knights Hospitaller or seized by secular rulers; 👉Philip absorbed substantial wealth👈 in France.

Jacques de Molay and other leaders were burned at the stake in Paris in 1314.

The dramatic French-led destruction left a lasting cultural imprint (sometimes popularly linked to the “Friday the 13th” superstition, though that connection is debated).

Modern organizations that invoke the Templar name or spirit including groups such as Knights Templar International are later revivals.
