Senior US officials say President Trump will officially recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

He is also set to kick start the process of moving the US Embassy to the city from Tel Aviv.

These steps may inflame tensions in the Middle East. Trump has said in the past he believes he has a ‘good shot’ at bringing peace to the region.
But journalist Mark Bruzonsky told RT he doesn’t think this is really on the president’s agenda.

Olympic Ban: IOC allows clean Russian athletes to participate in 2018 Winter Games

The International Olympic Committee has banned the Russian Winter Olympics squad from competing at the 2018 Games.

The decision to ban Russian athletes follows an investigation by an IOC-backed commission, headed by the former head of the Swiss department of sport Samuel Schmid.

Russia has been banned from the 2018 Winter Olympic Games, however individual athletes will be allowed to compete under a neutral flag.
They will participate under the name ‘Olympic Athlete From Russia’, with the country’s anthem and symbols banned from the Games.

Iran unveils new warship equipped with surface-to-surface missiles

The Iranian navy has unveiled a surface-to-surface missile-launching warship, dubbed “Separ,” in the northern port of Anzali on Tuesday. Separ, Farsi for ‘shield,’ is an Iranian-made Kaman/Sina class missile boat that is equipped with 4 C802 SSM anti-ship missiles, 1 Fajr-27 76 mm dual-purpose gun and one 40 mm anti-aircraft gun.

Apocalyptic View: Severe wildfire rips through California

A huge wildfire broke out in the hills near Santa Paula, California. It is reported to be spreading fast due to 50mph (80kph) winds. At least 27,000 have been evacuated as of Tuesday.

One person was killed when their car rolled over as they attempted to evacuate.

Over 500 homes have been evacuated and the Red Cross Center at Ventura Fairgrounds is filled. The fire remains uncontained and is said to be threatening multiple towns across Ventura County.

Former Georgian President and Governor of Odessa Mikhail Saakashvili joined supporters in a large-scale protest that saw Saakashvili released after being initially detained in Kiev on Tuesday.

The van that was supposed to take Saakashvili away was intercepted by his supporters, leading to a one-hour standoff between protesters and security services, that saw Saakashvili released in an unexpected turn of events.

The footage shows former Georgian president Mikhail Saakashvili threatening to jump off a roof in Kiev as Ukrainian police search his apartment, according to local media.

Law enforcement officials broke the door to Saakashvili’s apartment in central Kiev on Tuesday morning. Security forces searched the flat, while the former president of Georgia and ex-governor of Ukraine’s Odessa Region confined himself to the roof of the building.

‘Saudis threaten to bomb Sanaa, more blood will be shed’ – analyst on Yemen conflict

Yemen’s former President Ali Abdullah Saleh has been killed by Houthi rebels close to the capital, Sanaa. The escalation has led the United Nations to call for an end to the conflict.

Until recently, Saleh’s allies had been fighting alongside Houthi rebels against the current president, Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi. However, on Saturday, he made a public break from the Shiite opposition fighters. That was seen as a betrayal by the Houthis.

Political analyst Omar Nashabe told us he believes the situation in Yemen may now become even worse.
