A Family Cannot Return Home After Chinese New Year Holiday | #Coronavirus

#Coronavirus #Wuhan #Epochtimes
Location: rural area of Heze, Shandong Province, China

We visited family in another city during the Chinese New Year holiday and drove back today.

Upon arriving at Heze, I called the village head, telling him that we already reported our return to local authorities and they said we can self-quarantine inside our residence. However, the village head did not allow us to enter the village, and he harshly said, “Go wherever you want to. We don’t care. We only want to make sure that you leave our village.”

We are helpless. See, we have cookware, a gas tank, and a gas stove, and we need to take care of our kids. Here I am, we are outside. We plan to sleep outside tonight. See, right here, on the street. There is no way out.

I sought help from the local government, they could not help. I called the city’s helpline 12345, the mayor’s hotline and the local coronavirus control headquarter. They cannot provide any help.

A village cadre told me that it is no use no matter who I tried to contact for help, and I have to leave anyway. I asked him, “So what am I supposed to do?” He replied, “I don’t care. As long as you leave, you can go wherever you want to.”

I can tell you my current location. Here is Zhangke Village. This road is University Road, the other road going from north to south is Yunchuan Road.

I thought that while contagion is merciless, humans have mercy. Unexpectedly, humans are even more merciless than the contagion! We are prepared to sleep on the street today.

We haven’t had dinner yet. We are going to cook outside tonight. See, these are our quilts. We will sleep by the roadside. This is University Road, it is where we are going to sleep.

I hope related departments and related leaders can offer some help to us. We have two kids.

Narrator: Look, look, he is sealing a building now.
Every building is like this, all are sealed like this.
You probably thought it happened to one household only.
Actually all households are sealed like this. Have you seen it?
Every household is sealed.
Residents inside won’t be able to get out. Now take a look at the buildings across the street.
Did you see that?
All sealed as well.
No household is spared.
All the seals are nailed down and secured.
There is no way they can get out.How can they get out?
The outbreak is too serious, you know.
If we do not adopt this method, the outbreak cannot be controlled in Xiaogan.
Look… Look… I will stop going further.
My legs hurt from this long walk.
Anyway, all households here are sealed.

Surveillance Footage of Arson Attack on Hong Kong Print Shop used by The Epoch Times | Nov 19, 2019

The attack took place at 3:50 a.m. local time, when four individuals dressed in black and wearing facial masks, two of them armed with batons, entered the print shop through the loading dock of the warehouse in which the print shop is located.

See the full statement here:

Context of Epoch Times operating in China:

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has worked to silence The Epoch Times since the paper first began publishing in the year 2000 because of its reporting on the human rights record of the Chinese regime and on criticism of the CCP. Shortly after the newspaper’s founding in the United States, 10 staff members working underground in China were jailed and sentenced to prison terms ranging from three to 10 years, for charges like “inciting subversion of the state power.”

In the United States and other countries, Chinese embassies and consulates have worked to try to discourage businesses from advertising with the newspaper. The family members of U.S.-based Epoch Times staff have been threatened in China. There have been numerous instances in which of bundles of newspapers were stolen or destroyed; though the identities of the perpetrators are difficult to verify, these incidents fit a general pattern of harassment by the Chinese regime.

Recent examples in Hong Kong are illustrative. Ms. Lu, the Hong Kong edition’s circulation manager, said that in April, a popular convenience store in Hong Kong tore up a contract for selling The Epoch Times under pressure from the CCP, despite that sales of the newspaper had exceeded the contract requirements. Lu also said there have been incidents of intimidation of journalists from time to time.

The arson on the 19th is the fourth attack on The Epoch Times’ print shop in Hong Kong. In February 2006, thugs broke in and attempted to smash the printers. In October 2012, thugs attempted to break in but could not smash open the gate. In December 2012, seven men carrying multiple toolboxes appeared and began attempting to break through the gate. They fled after police were called.

The protests in Hong Kong have been an attempt to defend the fundamental liberties of the people of Hong Kong. The people of Hong Kong feel that if they don’t protest now, the CCP will force its tyranny over this formerly free city.

We appreciate the international organizations that expressed concern about the recent arson attack against The Epoch Times, notably the Committee to Protect Journalists and Reporters Without Borders.

This attack on The Epoch Times was an attempt to deny to the Hong Kong people of a free press.
