We choose to do things based on our value system, but how many of us know what our values are? How many of us know how our values effect our choices? The short answer is that most people don’t know why they do what they do, although they most definitely value some things over others.
When we take the time to consciously explore our values, we develop a greater capacity to consciously direct our lives. This can be described as knowing your life purpose.
Purpose is very important because it gives us direction. Without purpose, we can be easily distracted or influenced by other people, often not in the way we want. But to someone who know their purpose clearly, they are much more careful with distractions and have a conscious resolve that allows them to stand in their own power.
So since we’ve been doing things all our lives, since we’ve been making choices based on our value system, we can reflect on the past to better know the self. In doing so, we can reclaim sovereignty over our own mind and being, making us resistant to temptation and highly motivated to live out our calling.
The better we consciously know our values, and change them to match higher ones, the more precisely we can live happy lives, ideally ones that are beneficial to all beings.
