The Spanish Senate has approved the implementation of Article 155. It has never been used before and means removing Catalan autonomy.
Spain’s prime minister Rajoy said the rule of law in Catalonia will be restored. The decision comes just minutes after the Catalan parliament voted in favour of declaring independence from Spain.
