Almost a quarter of Brazil’s Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, has been destroyed by the biggest fire in the history of the park, which has been raging for over a week.
The fire damaged around 54,000 hectares (540,000 sq. meters). The Park was created in 1961 and occupies 240,000 hectares. It is home to many rare species, some of which are near extinction.
