Yemen’s former President Ali Abdullah Saleh has been killed by Houthi rebels close to the capital, Sanaa. The escalation has led the United Nations to call for an end to the conflict.
Until recently, Saleh’s allies had been fighting alongside Houthi rebels against the current president, Abdrabbuh Mansour Hadi. However, on Saturday, he made a public break from the Shiite opposition fighters. That was seen as a betrayal by the Houthis.
Political analyst Omar Nashabe told us he believes the situation in Yemen may now become even worse.
