LAS VEGAS — The eldest son of the Nevada rancher at the center of an armed standoff with federal agents in 2014 says he’ll mount an independent campaign for Nevada governor as a states’ rights fundamentalist.
Ryan Bundy said Thursday he doesn’t think other candidates running to replace term-limited Republican Gov. Brian Sandoval would properly protect the state liberty.
The 45-year-old Mesquite resident says he intends to file candidacy papers next Wednesday in Las Vegas and embark on a statewide speaking tour.
Federal charges were dropped in January against Bundy, his father Cliven Bundy, and a brother in the gunpoint standoff that stopped a federal roundup of Bundy cattle. A judge cited prosecutorial misconduct.
Ryan Bundy says he’s a strict constitutionalist who believes the federal government can only own land in states for limited and specified purposes.
After the Nevada standoff, Ryan Bundy and brother Ammon Bundy led an armed occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Oregon in 2016.

Ryan Bundy Says He’ll Run for Nevada Governor on State’s Rights Platform
This should have the feds worried: a constitutionalist willing to go to jail or die for his rights. Not the kind of opponent you want in an election.
I don’t think losing a Republican seat will be a big deal in the next election. The situation should be much different in Washington, and elsewhere and hopefully the snowflakes will be woke by then.
Regardless, HONEST, hardworking people who will represent the public fairly and can’t be bribed and blackmailed is what matters most.
Best of luck, Ryan. The People would do well by you.
Thanks for the heads up, C. ~ BP
