A team of researchers managed to find the ruins of an ancient Mayan city with over 60,000 houses, palaces, streets and other human settlements that have been hidden for centuries under the jungles of northern Guatemala.
According to a statement released Thursday by the Guatemalan foundation PACUNAM, this discovery is a step forward in the archaeological research of the Maya civilization and has allowed researchers to map outlines of what they describe as dozens of Mayan cities recently discovered, hidden under dense vegetation of the jungle centuries after they were abandoned by their descendants, or the original inhabitants.
