In the roaring Twenties, Rutheford had shown that an atom has a relatively small but mass-like core. Then in the following thirties, the awareness of the structure of matter is reached. Moreover, Quantum Theory had given a complete sense to the spectra and the electronic orbits, while the discovery of the neutrons had given full existence to the isotopes .
The study of matter has therefore conceived Universal laws in a different way, providing man with real scientific and philosophical illuminations, in existential questions.
