Around 4,000 environmental activists took over the tracks that supply energy company RWE’s power plants with coal from the open-cast mine in Hambach on Saturday, with another 40 people occupying a digger.
Protesters have been occupying the remaining area of the Hambach Forest since 2012, in an effort to block RWE’s planned expansion of its open-pit coal mine.
