Only about 0.005% of people have gender dysphoria, yet one school in the UK has 17 children with gender dysphoria – leading many to believe, that there are other influencing factors involved. One teacher remarked, that many of the children have autism. This has led some to speculate, that one of the driving factors might be autistic behaviour and not gender dysphoria. If this is true, then this would mean, that the vast majority of the children might be transitioning without having true gender dysphoria, which itself is very rare.
