Parkland: “Most Avoidable Shooting Ever”—Andrew Pollack, Father of Meadow, Mass Shooting Victim

On February 14, 2018 Andrew Pollack and his family suffered an unthinkable tragedy—Meadow Pollack was killed by the high school shooter in Parkland, Florida.

Pollack set out on a journey to understand how this could have happened, which culminated in his book, “Why Meadow Died.” which he co-wrote with Max Eden.

So, what policies in Broward County were responsible for Meadow’s death? What reforms has Andrew championed to prevent future mass shootings?

What can parents do to keep their children safe?

And what is the role of the mainstream media in all of this?

This is American Thought Leaders 🇺🇸, and I’m Jan Jekielek.

Today we sit down with school safety activist Andrew Pollack. Co-author of “Why Meadow Died: The People and Policies That Created The Parkland Shooter and Endanger America’s Students.”

We discuss how policies originally put in place to end the school-to-prison pipeline have prevented teachers from disciplining violent and aggressive students, to create what Andrew describes as “the most avoidable shooting ever.” And we also look at how, in Andrew’s eyes, the gun control debate has shifted attention away from the broken policies present in schools across the nation.
