Taxi Drivers Affected by Virus Go on Strike
Location: Shantou City, Guangdong Province
In mainland China, taxi drivers owe money to their taxi companies every day as soon as they wake up, in the form of franchise rent. The industry is tough, with drivers working day and night all year round, only for their companies to take away most of the income.
But now, life has become even harder for taxi drivers all across China amid the impact of the CCP virus.
In Shantou City, Guangdong Province, in southeastern China, where taxi services have been suspended, drivers were on strike on March 30 demanding that their company offer them a lifeline.
Some unfurled a banner that read,
“Taxi business is in the doldrums amid epidemic. We can’t survive.
We ask for free rent for three months to tide over the crisis!”
