8yo sticks firework down manhole triggering huge blast

A young boy from a town in north China’s Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region caused a dramatic explosion after trying to stick a firework down a manhole cover on Wednesday.

Security camera footage showed how the eight-year-old from Lindong County in Chifeng City appeared to be holding two fireworks, before attempting to insert one into a small hole in the septic well cover. His action triggered a dramatic methane gas explosion seconds later, which blew away the manhole cover and damaged the pavement.

Shocking CCTV footage released on Friday captures the moment a dam at an iron ore mine collapsed in the south-eastern city of Brumadinho on January 25, resulting in a deadly mudslide overrunning the area and destroying buildings in its wake.
The mudslide can be seen engulfing the company canteen of mining giant Vale, who were responsible for the collapse, as well as neighbouring buildings.

Arms manufacturer Kalashnikov has released an updated version of the RPK-74 Soviet light machine gun, the RPK-16. The updated design boasts an interchangeable barrel for close quarter and long-range combat. The 4-kilogram, 5.45-calibre weapon has a rate of fire of 700 rounds per minute. It is expected to be adopted by the Russian armed forces sometime this year.

20 kilos of gold & 600K euro: Police dog sniffs out haul of gold and cash in Italy

Italian police found 75 gold ingots and cash bills with a total value of 1.3 million euros in Turin. A video released by the Carabinieri, the country’s domestic policing unit, showed a German shepherd dog scratching at a door of a private deposit box in the city. Inside was almost 20 kilos of gold, worth 657,000 euros and cash packed in bills totalling 600,000 euros all contained in vacuumed plastic bags. According to the Carabinieri the unusual finding was due to a routine anti-drug dealing operation which led them to inspect a self-storage deposit facility. The deposit box belongs to a 46-year-old Italian businessman and police suspect the discovery could be the proceeds of thefts and robberies.

Apple blocks Facebook research app over privacy breach

Thousands of Facebook members, some as young as 13, have reportedly been paid by the social media platform for the data on their mobile phones. But the app used to do the job has been banned by Apple after it was shown to have violated privacy policies. Despite that, it’s still available on a different operating platform – Android.
