Erected, defaced, removed: Erdogan golden statue taken away from German city

The four-meter (13 feet) golden statue of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was removed from Wiesbaden on Tuesday, as according to local authorities “security could no longer be guaranteed.’

The statue was erected in the city’s German Unity Square (Platz der Deutschen Einheit) as part of an art installation, stirring some commotion amid Erdogan supporters and opponents.

Huge fire at historic building in Belfast city centre

Firefighters in Northern Ireland have been battling a major blaze that broke out Tuesday at a clothing store in the centre of Belfast. Shoppers and staff were evacuated as the Primark store filled with smoke and the flames took hold. The fire was visible across much of the city centre.

More Syrian Armytroops were seen heading towards the frontline with Idlib province in north-western Syria, as they passed through Maar Shahour village in Hama Governorate, on Monday. Soldiers rode on top of lorries carrying tanks, artillery and armoured personnel carriers. An army officer said his troops were ready for the ‘final battle’ against militants in Idlib province.
