A series of bonds issued by the Qing government a century ago are once again questioning the legitimacy of the Chinese Communist regime that is now in a difficult dilemma it can not get out of. The market value of the bonds is worth $1.6 trillion USD, and if the CCP wants to prove itself to be the legitimate government of China, then it has to pay back these bonds. If the CCP refuses to acknowledge this debt, then it must recognize that the Republic of China (Taiwan) is the legitimate government of China.
Recently, Americans who hold the “Hukuang Railway Bond”—issued by the Qing Dynasty to the United States, Britain, France, and Germany to raise funds for the construction of the Huguang Railways that run from Hunan to Guangzhou—initiated a movement demanding the Chinese Communist Party repay the debt. The chairman of the American Bondholders Foundation (ABF), Jonna Bianco, said: “These bonds were originally issued under the Republic of China, what we know today is Taiwan. And the Communist regime who went in and took over mainland China and became the official government in 1949. It becomes their responsibility to honor this debt. The CCP, Chinese Communist Party’s debt, just as they paid Great Britain in 1987 for the very same bond. It is successor government doctrine.”
However, the CCP has always refused to cash in on bonds held by Americans. It selectively defaulted, deliberately not repaying the money owed to American investors.
As early as 1973, before the establishment of diplomatic relations between the United States and China, the U.S. representative told the CCP during negotiations that although the debt does not have to be repaid immediately, the U.S. will not exempt it. Although the CCP government claims to be the only legal government in China and has the right to inherit the sovereignty of Hong Kong left by the Qing government, it does not recognize the right to inherit the “Hukuang Railway Bonds” issued by the Qing government.
Bianco said that the previous U.S. administrations did not attach any importance to the issue of the Huguang Railway bond, but President Trump is different from them. “Thank God for President Donald J. Trump, who is listening to this issue. I have met with him personally. He has committed his support behind this issue. He is the only president that has held China accountable to play by the same rules, to have fair trades, to have as he said perfectly, reciprocity, and that’s what Americans expect, that’s what the world expects,” she said.
According to data from the US Treasury Department, as of May 2020, the CCP holds US $1.08 trillion in US Treasury bonds. Bianco suggested that the Trump administration exchange bonds with the CCP, that is, use the Hukuang Railway Bonds to repay the U.S. Treasury bonds held by the CCP. Bianco said that she is confident that this matter will succeed.

Ms. Xu, a Wuhan resident, lost her father to the CCP virus on Feb. 2. She filed an indictment for compensation on July 20, which was the second lawsuit filed by victim’s families against Chinese authorities.
Yang Zhanqing, a human rights advocate living in the United States, is providing legal assistance and consultation for Xu and other families in similar situations.
In a recent interview with NTDTV, Xu said her father was generally in good health, but he caught a cold in mid-January.
On January 31, the hospital issued a notice saying Xu’s father was critically ill. Then on Feb. 2, Xu learned that her father had passed away. She said, “I received a phone call from the hospital around 3 a.m. on Feb. 2, telling me that my father passed away. I was told that he died from multiple organ failures. When we went to the hospital, we were only there to finish up certain procedures. My father’s body had already been taken away.”
Yang said, “This is a typical case. The government’s cover-up at the initial stage of the outbreak kept the public ignorant of the situation. By the time they learned about it, the patient’s illness had become severe as he had been infected for a couple of weeks. However, there was no sufficient medical resource to help these severely-ill patients. In addition, the authorities set certain criteria to make it harder for patients to get medical treatment. For instance, one has to test positive to receive treatment. Otherwise, even those with symptoms would not have the opportunities to be treated.”

The epidemic in Xinjiang keeps getting worse. On July 29, officials reported an additional 96 confirmed cases and 18 asymptomatic patients who are all concentrated in Ürümqi. The spokesperson of the World Uyghur Congress indicated that the epidemic in Xinjiang is very severe and local residents do not believe in the official reports. The local government implemented tighter control, not only did they lock down the city, but also the homes. They even threaten the residents saying: “Break your legs if you go out, tear your mouth if you talk back.”
The epidemic has spread to nearby cities from Dalian, Liaoning Province. On July 29, confirmed cases related to Dalian City were reported in Beijing. At the moment, all kindergartens and 1,614 cultural services establishments are all closed in Dalian City.
On July 30, Hong Kong reported 149 confirmed cases, making a new record of highest confirmed cases in one day. The local government is transforming an exhibit center into a temporary hospital that will provide 2,000 hospital beds. It is estimated that it will be in operation in 2-3 days.
Australia has also registered a new record high in infected patients. On July 30, the state of Victoria reported 723 new confirmed cases, breaking the state and national single-day record for confirmed cases. Starting from next Monday, August 3, it will be mandatory to wear masks in public in Victoria State.
On the same day, the number of confirmed people with the virus in India surpassed 50,000 for the first time, with a rapid increase of infection rate in the rural areas. Although the epidemic is not getting better, India still insists on entering the third phase of reopening. Curfew will be lifted from August 1, gyms and other sports venues will reopen from August 5, but schools, cinemas and bars will remain closed.
On July 30, Brazil’s presidential press office issued a statement announcing that First Lady Michelle Bosonaro had tested positive for the CCP virus. A cyclist, traveling from Shanghai to Tacheng, Xinjiang, got caught in the middle of the CCP virus outbreak.
He said in that all counties and cities are locked down. He had to set up a tent under a bridge on the G219 highway. When he posted the video, he had already spent three nights under the bridge without food or water for over ten hours. People he came across refused to help him buy food and water.
He suggested they send him to a quarantine spot. He would pay his own quarantine fee and leave when the quarantine is over, but was refused. If this situation continues without food, his life will be in danger.

Recently, Chinese-Canadian Lin Shen-Li was holding banners in front of the Chinese consulate in Toronto to demand the Chinese regime release his sister who was arrested for practicing Falun Gong. On July 30, with the help of NTD, he urged the international community to help rescue his 74-year-old sister. On May 29, police from Changning District, Shanghai City, went into Lin’s house without permission and arrested her. Lin Qiu-Peng is a 74-year-old Falun Gong practitioner living in Shanghai.
Lin’s brother, Lin Shen-Li, said: “On May 29, she was at home and 8 police went into her home and took her away. She was not allowed to take anything with her. The police did not show any identification. My sister is held at the detention center in Changning District. One week later, the family received a detention warrant from the Public Security Bureau saying that she was detained for breaking the law by having a certain religion. Family members were not allowed to visit her with the excuse of the pandemic.”
Lin Qiu-Peng’s brother, who is also a Falun Gong practitioner living in Toronto, recalled the changes in body and mind his sister underwent after practicing Falun Gong. He said that after the Chinese Communist Party started to persecute Falun Gong, his sister kept giving out information about the truth of the persecution with the hope to clarify the truth about the CCP’s propaganda attacks on Falun Gong. This is the reason for the illegal arrest.
Lin Shen-Li urged the international community to rescue his sister. She is already 74 years old. She is innocent and not guilty of anything, no matter how you look at it. The Chinese Constitution allows citizens to have freedom of religion and freedom of speech. The definition of evil cult in Article 14 of the Ministry of Public Security does not target Falun Gong, so Falun Gong is totally legal,” Lin said. On July 14, Lin and other Falun Gong practitioners held a press conference in front of the Chinese consulate in Toronto calling on the Canadian government to rescue Lin Qiu-Peng and also demanding the Chinese regime to immediately release Lin Qiu-Peng.

On July 29, Hong Kong police arrested four students who are former members of a pro-democracy group. These were the first known arrests made by a new Hong Kong police unit tasked with enforcing a sweeping new national security law, which punishes actions deemed as secession, subversion, terrorism, and collusion with maximum life imprisonment.
The four are connected to the group Student Localism, which advocated on social media for Hong Kong’s independence. The group dissolved its Hong Kong branch on June 30, on the eve of the law’s implementation. Critics fear that the law, which Beijing singlehandedly enacted, has enabled the Chinese regime to expand its control over the former British colony.
Hong Kong pro-democracy activists have called on the international community to condemn the police action, saying that Hong Kong has entered an era of criminalization of speech and that secret arrests will intensify.

Local authorities in China’s northeastern Dalian city announced a new CCP virus outbreak on July 23. Authorities claimed that Kaiyang seafood company was the source of this round of new infections. Communities in Dalian Bay, where the seafood company is located, have been designated as high-risk areas and are now under lockdown, which authorities refer to as “closed-off management.”
Ms. Yan, a resident of Beijing whose parents and elder brother live in Dalian Bay area, revealed to The Epoch Times that residents in “closed-off” communities are having great difficulty buying food.
Many residents have run out of food, and there are families with infants running out of baby formula.

While more than half of China’s provinces continue to suffer from floods due to torrential rains, many parts of northeast China are experiencing the worst drought in recent history. In Fuxin City and Jinzhou City of Liaoning Province, large areas of crops have been wiped out and trees are dying due to lack of water.
On July 30, The Beijing News reported that two months before the corn is harvested in October, the blazing sun drained the moisture from the leaves in the cornfields of Fuxin City, Liaoning Province. Most of the corn leaves rolled up and turned into pieces as soon as they were twisted by hand. The report said that this summer is the driest summer in the region since 1951.
Not only Fuxin City, but Jinzhou City, Yingkou City, Huludao City, Chaoyang City, Panjin City, Shenyang City, and Tieling City have all experienced severe dry weather. According to a report, nearly 700,000 people are affected by the drought in Jinzhou City.
Drought also happened in Inner Mongolia and farmers also harvested no crops. Despite many provinces suffering from droughts, many places in China suffered from attacks of locusts and southern China suffered great floods. Both disasters pose great threats on crops that are harvested in autumn.

Starting in June 2019, Shandong province a village-merging campaign was heavily promoted with plans to demolish 20% or more of 14,000 villages this year. Under pressure from the government, some villagers committed suicide by taking pesticides. On the evening of July 25, Mr. Li, a villager in Xinxing Town in Shandong Province, had his home forcibly demolished and was repeatedly summoned by the police for “illegal mining”. He tried to commit suicide by taking pesticides at the gate of Lanling County Public Security Bureau. He was later sent to the hospital and regained consciousness on the 26th.
Ms. Lu from Shandong said, “merging villages and living together” is a means used by the government to solve financial problems, but the compensation it pays to the villagers is too low to be acceptable. She pointed out that the government used various means to force villagers to sign demolition agreements. Ms. Lu also said that the demolition of houses actually started 10 years ago, way earlier than the village merging campaign.
Ms. Fu, a villager in Wangpingzhuang Village, Gejia, Lanshan District, Linyi City, revealed that her house was demolished 10 years ago, and her father has still been in prison for petitioning. She sadly said that if it weren’t for her father, mother and children, she would not want to live. If anyone encounters such a thing, he or she will want to take pesticides because there is nowhere to seek justice.

China’s northeastern port city of Dalian city, initiated a large-scale nucleic acid test for millions of residents on July 26, in response to a re-emergence of the CCP virus. Several videos released from Dalian showed the chaotic situation at the mass testing sites, including one person who wrestled with others while waiting in line.

Back in April, a Chinese veteran living in Beijing told the Epoch Times that he received a phone call from the Ministry of Armed Forces, asking him to join the army again.
“The Ministry of Armed Forces checked on my current situation and asked me to get prepared to return to the army, in response to the call from Chairman Xi. I am almost 50. How can I have the energy to fight in battles? My elder brother also received a phone call from them. So I guess all veterans like us received such phone calls.”
A video recently released confirmed his statement. Two soldiers notified a veteran to go take a physical exam, even though he had already retired from the military. The veteran’s family expressed strong opposition.
Many Chinese citizens are puzzled by the Chinese regimes ever-growing military ambitions this year. First of all, the pandemic is still ravaging China. Second, young soldiers growing up in the one-child era are mostly spoiled youths and can’t be good fighters. What gives Chinese leaders the confidence to provoke neighboring countries?
According to insiders, Xi has made many serious mistakes in handling the pandemic and Hong Kong’s pro-democracy movement, as well as the U.S.-China trade war, making himself prone to attacks by his political opponents. Therefore, Xi chooses to accomplish something extraordinary to consolidate his power, and that extraordinary mission could be territory expansion on the India-China border, South China Sea, or “unifying Taiwan” by force.
There is also hearsay that China suffered huge losses of soldiers to the pandemic, but the real situation has been kept as a top state secret.

8. Political Correctness: The Devil’s Thought Police
Communist countries practice strict control over speech and thought. However, since the 1980s, another form of speech and thought control has appeared in the West. Thought police use the banner of “political correctness” to run amok in the media, society, and education system, using slogans and mass criticism to restrain speech and thought. Even though many have already felt the evil power of its control, they have not grasped its ideological origins.
Phrases such as “political correctness,” together with “progress” and “solidarity,” have long been used by communist parties. Their superficial meaning is to avoid using discriminatory language toward minorities, women, the disabled, and others. For example, “black people” are to be called “African Americans,” American Indians are to be called “Native Americans,” illegal immigrants are to be called “undocumented workers,” and so on.
However, the hidden implication behind political correctness is to classify individuals into groups according to their victim status. Those who are the most oppressed should, therefore, be accorded the most respect and courtesy. This judgment is rendered solely on one’s identity, disregarding individual conduct and talent, which is the basis of what’s called “identity politics.”
This style of thinking is extremely popular in the United States and other Western countries. According to such logic, black lesbians, who are oppressed along vectors o race, sex, and sexual preference, are ranked at the forefront of victimhood. At the other extreme, white, heterosexual males are considered the most privileged and, in the logic of victim politics, should be at the bottom of the totem pole.
This type of classification is identical to what goes on in communist countries, where individuals were classified within the “five classes of red” or the “five classes of black” according to their wealth and class status before the revolution. The Chinese Communist Party eliminated and oppressed landowners and capitalists because of their “wrong” class status, attacked intellectuals as the “Stinking Old Ninth”, and chanted that “the poor are the smartest; the nobles, the dumbest.”
