Back in April, a Chinese veteran living in Beijing told the Epoch Times that he received a phone call from the Ministry of Armed Forces, asking him to join the army again.
“The Ministry of Armed Forces checked on my current situation and asked me to get prepared to return to the army, in response to the call from Chairman Xi. I am almost 50. How can I have the energy to fight in battles? My elder brother also received a phone call from them. So I guess all veterans like us received such phone calls.”
A video recently released confirmed his statement. Two soldiers notified a veteran to go take a physical exam, even though he had already retired from the military. The veteran’s family expressed strong opposition.
Many Chinese citizens are puzzled by the Chinese regimes ever-growing military ambitions this year. First of all, the pandemic is still ravaging China. Second, young soldiers growing up in the one-child era are mostly spoiled youths and can’t be good fighters. What gives Chinese leaders the confidence to provoke neighboring countries?
According to insiders, Xi has made many serious mistakes in handling the pandemic and Hong Kong’s pro-democracy movement, as well as the U.S.-China trade war, making himself prone to attacks by his political opponents. When the street revolution of Western youths was in full swing in the 1960s, there was one who dismissed their naivety, sincerity, and idealism. “If the real radical finds that having long hair sets up psychological barriers to communication and organization, he cuts his hair,” he said. A new CCP virus outbreak in Dalian city, in northeastern China, has spread to at least seven cities since authorities confirmed a cluster of infections on July 23.
The Dalian city government has claimed that a seafood company was the source of the latest outbreak, saying the virus was found on the packaging of frozen seafood in cold storage. In addition, 85 percent of the new cases are either employees of the company or relatives of the employees.
Local authorities quarantined a large number of people who may have come into contact with confirmed patients. The Epoch Times was able to reach some of them by phone.

Renowned Chinese dissident Huang Qi has been serving a 12-year sentence since 2016 on the charge of “leaking state secrets to foreigners.” His 87-year old mother, Pu Wenqing, is a late-stage cancer patient. She wrote an open letter to the authorities on May 1, asking for a fair trial of Huang and for permission to visit her son before she dies.
On July 23, Huang’s fellow activist Wei Wenyuan and five petitioners went to Chengdu to visit Pu Wenqing, but were intercepted by state security personnel on the stairway.
Huang Qi, 56, is the founder of 64 Tianwang, a news website blocked in mainland China that reports on human rights abuses and protests in the country, focusing on dissidents and petitioners, Falun Gong practitioners, and other suppressed religious groups.
Chinese petitioners are a unique group of citizens who try to seek redress from higher authorities after they became victims of injustice. However, instead of investigating and redressing their cases, the Chinese authorities treat them as “factors causing social instability,” and try all means to quell and silence this group of people.

Following a ban of 59 mostly Chinese apps last month, the Indian government has banned 47 additional Chinese apps.
On July 27, Press Trust of India (PTI), the largest news agency in India, reported that the Indian government has drawn up a list banning 47 more Chinese apps. These 47 Chinese apps are mostly clones and variants of the apps banned at the end of June. Citing an unnamed source, PTI said the ban for all Indian users went into effect on July 24.
On July 4, in a government press statement, the Indian government explained that one of the reasons for banning these 59 apps was because “some apps have been stealing and surreptitiously transmitting users’ data to servers based outside India.”
Without naming China, it warned that companies may hand over users’ data to foreign governments, thus hurting India’s national interests.
Also on July 27, India Today and The Economic Times reported that the Indian government has also prepared another list of over 250 Chinese apps that it will examine for violations of user data and national security.

A former employee from India filed a civil lawsuit against Alibaba and its founder, Jack Ma, for being fired over opposition to censorship and fake news being promoted on company apps. This employee believed that he was wrongfully terminated for opposing Alibaba’s censorship and objecting to fake news on the apps. The Indian court has summoned Alibaba and Jack Ma.
The case comes weeks after India cited security concerns in banning Alibaba’s UC News, UC Browser, and 57 other Chinese apps such as TikTok, WeChat, and Weibo after a clash between the two countries’ forces on their border. Immediately after, UC Web of Alibaba started to lay off its employees in India.
In more than 200 pages of court filings, the former employee included clippings of posts showcased on the UC News app that he alleged were false.

On Thursday, October 24, 1929, the New York stock market crashed. The crisis spread from the financial sector to the entire economy, sparing none of the major developed nations of the West. Unemployment spiked to over a quarter of the population, and the total number of unemployed exceeded 30 million. Apart from the Soviet Union, industrial production in major industrial countries dropped by an average of 27 percent.
In early 1933, within 100 days of Roosevelt’s inauguration, many bills were introduced around the theme of solving the crisis. The policies increased government intervention in the economy and passed major reforms: Congress enacted the Emergency Banking Act, Agricultural Adjustment Act, the National Industrial Recovery Act, and the Social Security Act. Though Roosevelt’s New Deal essentially ended by the outbreak of World War II, many of the institutions and organizations that emerged during the period have continued to shape American society to the present day.
Roosevelt issued more executive orders than the total number of such decrees hitherto issued by all presidents in the 20th century. Nevertheless, the American unemployment rate in the United States did not fall below double digits until the war. The New Deal’s real effect was to set the U.S. government on a trajectory of high taxation, big government, and economic interventionism.
In his 2017 book The Big Lie: Exposing the Nazi Roots of the American Left, conservative thinker Dinesh D’Souza argued that the National Recovery Act, which formed the centerpiece of Roosevelt’s New Deal, essentially meant the end of the U.S. free market.
According to FDR’s Folly, a 2003 book by historian Jim Powell, the New Deal prolonged the Great Depression rather than ending it: the Social Security Act and labor laws encouraged further unemployment, while high taxes encumbered healthy business and the like.
Economist and Nobel Prize Laureate Milton Friedman praised Powell’s work, saying: “As Powell demonstrates without a shadow of a doubt, the New Deal hampered recovery from the contraction, prolonged and added to unemployment, and set the stage for ever more intrusive and costly government.”

A few days ago, Wang Xiaoqi, a web-based writer from China, published an article that exposes the decades-long history of China’s two dairy giants, Mengniu and Yili. The article accuses these companies of adding various chemicals, such as fatty powder, whey powder, and melamine to their milk when their gross profits were as high as 70% or even 80%, making such practices a tacitly recognized hidden policy of the country’s major dairy enterprises.
The article also revealed that the two companies had pushed for changes in national dairy standards and lowered the quality and quantity requirements of milk products for their own benefit. The article also accused the two companies of having a poor production environment, deliberately raising the price of milk powder, exploiting dairy farmers, and neglecting the interests of consumers, resulting in a “complete decay of China’s dairy industry from its source to its end”.

Though U.S. agricultural exports to China fell one-third in May due to trade war tensions, exports have recently surged beyond expectation due to the flooding of 433 rivers across China.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture reported that pork, corn, wheat, cotton, rice, sorghum, and soybean exports to China from July 10 to 16 reached $32.9 billion, the Phase I annual rate as negotiated in January by the Trump Administration.
Donald Trump ran for President promising to close the $419.2 billion trade goods deficit by decreasing China’s $539.5 billion in exports to the United States with tariffs and increasing America’s $120.3 billion in exports to China. At the time, China’s average tariff on U.S. products was 8%, while the U.S. average tariff on China was 3.1%.
When the two parties called for a Phase 1 truce on Jan. 15, China had more than doubled its tariff rates on U.S. goods to 20.9%; but the Americans had spiked tariff rates on Chinese goods by seven times to 21%. The two-year deal required China to increase U.S. manufacturing, energy, and service purchases by $120 billion, but also required China to increase annual U.S. agricultural imports from $24 billion in 2017, to $32.9 billion in 2020, and $44.8 billion in 2021.
However, China blamed the pandemic for its failure to significantly increase U.S. agricultural imports, running merely at a $12 billion annual rate through the month of May, which is about a third of the level agreed upon in Phase I.
It is estimated that 45.2 million Chinese have already been affected by floods in 27 provinces along the Yangtze River, Huai River, and Yellow River. When Southern China was hit with a record-breaking 30-hour continuous rainfall reaching 16.8 inches beginning on July 4, China’s Meteorological Administration rolled out a “No. 1 Flood” warning.
With China’s heavy rainfall season running about 46% more severe than normal, and 17% more severe than the devastating floods of 1998, about 20% of the nation’s farmable land is now submerged. According to market analyst firm Seeking Alpha, this could lead to major crop loss this year, with rice, rapeseed, and cotton being the most affected. Moreover, the African swine fever pandemic, which caused 180 million infected pigs to die out last year, has returned as floods reached shallow graves and contaminated groundwater.
With no alternative nation capable of addressing the scale of its potential food security crisis this year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) reported that China bought 1.365 million tons of American corn on July 10. The large transaction was followed on July 14 with a single-day record purchase of 1.762 million metric tons of corn. The USDA added that China has quietly been buying substantial amounts of pork, sorghum, soybeans, and cotton since May.

Xinjiang Health Commission reported 79 new cases of the CCP virus on July 26, all of which were from the capital city Urumqi. At present, 8,795 people are under medical observation.
Videos released from Xinjiang exposed that local authorities are building a large-scale makeshift hospital that can house thousands or even tens of thousands of coronavirus patients in Urumqi. In addition, Yining, another city in Xinjiang 370 miles away from Urumqi, was placed under lockdown on very short notice in the late evening of July 26.
The construction of Fangcang Hospital in Urumqi and the lockdown of Yining both indicate that the CCP virus outbreak in Xinjiang is much worse than official figures. As a matter of fact, Yining has not reported any cases in this new outbreak.

The 2016 American presidential election was one of the most dramatic in decades. Though voter turnout was a low 58 percent, the campaign trail was full of twists and turns that persisted even after the election. The winner, Republican candidate Donald Trump, found himself besieged by negative media coverage and protests in cities around the nation. The demonstrators held signs emblazoned with slogans such as “Not My President,” declaring Trump to be racist, sexist, xenophobic, or a Nazi. There were demands for a recount and threats of impeachment.
Investigative journalism has revealed that many of these protests were instigated by certain interest groups. As shown in “America Under Siege: Civil War 2017,” a documentary directed by Florida-based researcher Trevor Loudon, a significant portion of the demonstrators were “professional revolutionaries” with ties to communist regimes and other authoritarian states, such as North Korea, Iran, Venezuela, or Cuba. Loudon’s work also highlighted the role of two prominent American socialist organizations, the Stalinist Workers World Party and the Maoist Freedom Road Socialist Organization.
Having researched the communist movement since the 1980s, Loudon determined that left-wing organizations have made the United States their primary target for infiltration and subversion. The fields of American politics, education, media, and business have increasingly shifted to the left under the influence of well-placed individuals. Even as people around the globe cheered the triumph of the free world after the Cold War, communism was stealthily taking over public institutions of Western society in preparation for the final struggle.

On July 22 around 3 p.m. local time, huge dark clouds rolled in transforming the bright, sunny day into night. Hail and thunder suddenly pounded the city of Harbin in northeastern China. Several places became inundated with water while the wind knocked-down big trees in the streets.
A Chinese netizen said, “I thought it was about dinner time, but my watch told me it was 3 p.m.”
Another netizen said, “I took a short nap and was shocked when I woke up—I thought I overslept to midnight.”
