The Chinese regime on May 28 passed a draft resolution on a national security law for Hong Kong, leading the United States to consider revoking Hong Kong’s preferential trading status and sanctioning China. Experts believe that imposing tough sanctions on Chinese and Hong Kong officials involved in human rights abuses in the city can have a deterrent effect.
The so-called “national security law” would ban acts and activities in connection to secession, subversion, and terrorism, as well as activities related to foreign interference. Moreover, Beijing’s security agencies would be allowed to set up operations in Hong Kong.
White House National Security Adviser Robert C. O’Brien warned on May 24 that Washington will likely sanction the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) if it pushes through the Hong Kong National Security Law, making Hong Kong lose its special status.

The Hong Kong National Security Law, proposed by the CCP at the “Two Sessions” conference, has sparked an international outcry. Let’s hear what Hongkongers in the US have to say.
The Hong Kong National Law will allow for regulations regarding subversion of state power, secession, terrorist activities, and interference by external forces. This means that some contents in Article 23 of the “Basic Law” will be directly inserted into Annex III and implemented in Hong Kong, without being scrutinized by its Legislative Council, thus, further reducing freedom of speech and freedom of assembly in Hong Kong.
Founder of Lamp Of Liberty, University of Washington Master of Laws student Corina Kwok DeLos Santos: “This national security law is very harmful. Its aim isn’t to just harm Hong Kong’s rule of law. Not only has the “one country, two systems” principle not been respected, but Hong Kong’s entire culture will be in danger. Hong Kong has worked very hard over the past 100 years to build a system with a free economy, and to build a place of democracy and freedom. As long as the Chinese Communist regime still stands, it will gradually erode all democracy in the world.”
Founder of NY4HK, Anna Yeung-Cheung: “This bill will basically destroy the “one country, two systems” principle, and will turn it directly into ‘one country, one system.’ After Hong Kong’s most fundamental principle “one country, two systems” is destroyed, many foreign business owners, even friends and journalists might feel frightened when they come to Hong Kong. In the future, (Hong Kong’s) civilization and prosperity will go backwards. As you can see, the word most Googled by Hongkongers is ‘immigration.’”
Rutgers University Student, Terry Fung: “Hong Kong’s national security law should only be implemented from within Hong Kong, through the Legislative Council, rather than by China. Since the law was legislated by China’s ‘Two Sessions’ and then implemented by Hong Kong, it has already violated relevant sections of Hong Kong’s Basic Law. In fact, it has completely ignored the ‘one country, two systems’ principle. This indicates that in Hong Kong, ‘one country, two systems’ only exists in name, because Hong Kong no longer has its own legislative or executive base.”
The Hong Kong National Security Law also requires the Hong Kong government to set up a national security agency in Hong Kong, and the Chief Executive of Hong Kong is also required to submit regular reports on national security to the central government.

Or will it be, that the national securities get sent (to Hong Kong) for law enforcement? There are a lot of legal problems with such law enforcement, as mainland China adopts mainland security law and Hong Kong adopts the Basic Law. Hong Kong people have rights and civil liberties, have the right to remain silent, the right to have fair and impartial hearings, and to have access to legal representation. For example, if you have been holding me for 48 hours, you will have to release me if you don’t charge me with anything. However, those rights may all disappear because of national security problems. Nowadays, the world simply does not believe that the rule of law exists in mainland China, that there is justice in mainland China’s legal system, or that there are rights for the people because over the past few decades, the CCP has shown the world that it is simply a system that undermines human rights and violates others’ personal freedoms.”
Previously, President Donald Trump said that the US would respond “very strongly” if the CCP attempts to exert more control over Hong Kong. US Department of State Spokesperson, Morgan Ortagus, expressed (on May 21st) that the US warns China “against imposing new national security legislation on Hong Kong.”

Northeast China is the heartland of three provinces, Jilin, Liaoning, and Heilongjiang. After Heilongjiang was hit by the CCP virus, the neighboring two provinces also experienced lockdowns due to the spread of the virus. Subsequently, inflated costs for food, testing, and quarantines have become a norm in the new Chinese epicenter.
Residents in Jilin and Liaoning were interviewed after the regime imposed a lockdown. On top of the draconian lockdown measures and inflated cost of living, not only is there no aid or subsidies from the regime, but the cost of testing is much higher.
The interview was conducted by Xiong Bin and Chang Chun of the Chinese-language Epoch Times.

Heavy Rain Floods Entire Chinese Town
Many places in Southern China’s Guangxi Province were hit by heavy rains May 24 and May 25, leading to severe flooding. In Napo County, the entire town was submerged in water. In some lower terrains, the flood almost reached the roofs of homes.
Before the rain, the capital city of Nanning reported 65,537 lightning bolts in the 12 hours from 8 p.m. of May 21.

Commentary 5: On the Collusion of Jiang Zemin and the Chinese Communist Party to Persecute Falun Gong
Ms. Zhang Fuzhen, about 38 years old, was an employee of Xianhe Park, Pingdu City, Shandong Province, China. She went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in November 2000 and was later abducted by the authorities. According to people with knowledge of the case, the police tortured and humiliated Zhang Fuzhen, stripping her naked and shaving her whole head. They tied her to a bed with her four limbs stretched out, and she therefore was forced to relieve herself on the bed. Later, the police gave her an injection of an unknown poisonous drug. After the injection, Zhang was in so much pain that she nearly went insane. She struggled in great pain on the bed until she died. The whole process was witnessed by the local officials of the 610 Office (from a July 23, 2004 report on the Clearwisdom website).

When Hong Kong reverted to Chinese rule in 1997, the regime agreed to grant the city autonomy and freedoms not enjoyed in the mainland under this framework. But now, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) plans to impose a national security law on Hong Kong, bypassing the city’s legislature. This would end the Basic Law of Hong Kong. “One country, two systems” may become “one country, one system” at any time.
Recently, some clips and slogans from classic Hong Kong films have been circulating on the Internet. Clips of the Hong Kong Police Force using tear gas to disperse a crowd and brutally beating protesters, and the slogan of “One country, two systems, it’s over” were popular images that Hongkongers feared could come true. But they have already materialized.
In the movie “Ten Years,” one scene showed the protagonist, who supported Hong Kong independence, being pushed to the ground and beaten by anti-riot police as they fired tear gas into the air to disperse the crowd. The movie contains five short stories set in the year 2025, showing a dystopian future of a Hong Kong society losing its rights and freedoms as Chinese authorities exert their influence. That is now happening in Hong Kong.
The director of the film, Zhou Guan Wei, said: “At the time, the photographer asked if it was necessary to portray the policemen as bad guys because there were actually some good policemen, and if it was possible to ask the actors to not hit the people so hard. I was very careful not to go so far as to describe and portray the action of police hitting people on the head. But going into 2019, in just four years, police brutality has become a routine, and I think it’s even worse than the movie.”
While the scenes of the movie played out in real life, the director’s heart felt heavy because the CCP continues to tighten its grip on the city.
Director Zhou said: “At that time, the [Chinese regime] Government intended to pass Article 23, and everyone felt that their freedom was restricted. I felt as if there was something, after the legislation, that I wanted to say but I could not say it…”
One clip from the Hong Kong film “Her Fatal Ways”: “When the old man is upset, you know he is in a bad mood. He will order his disciples to come over. Ha! By that time, the Joint Declaration of the UK and China is over! One country, two systems is over! The Basic Law of Hong Kong is over! The Hong Kong dollar will plummet, the financial sector will plummet, the stock market will plummet, property prices will plummet and everything will plummet!”
The Hong Kong film, “Her fatal Ways” was released in 1990, a year after the June Fourth Tiananmen Square massacre took place in Beijing.
When the CCP announced that it would impose a national security law on Hong Kong, the city’s stocks plunged, with the Hang Seng Index plunging 1349.89 points or 5.56 percent on May 22. The legislation would jeopardize Hong Kong’s status as a global financial hub. All the series of events from the movie accurately predicted what is currently happening in Hong Kong.
Former CCP leader Deng Xiaoping said to Hong Kong tycoon Li Ka-shing in 1990: “One country, two systems will not change. I’ve said this many times in the past, and that is, it will remain the same for 50 years, and it’s not going to change after 50 years.”

An investment firm in Shanghai has seen its financial management products failing, causing many investors to lose all their money.
News has since broken out that two elderly people in Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province, who could not bear the situation committed suicide by jumping from a building.
According to the data, Yinlai Assets Management Co. Ltd. had made investments in 16 companies and wholly owned seven of them, including Yinlai Wealth in Shanghai that specializes in assets management, wealth management, investment banking, and internet finance.
Since 2018, there have been instances of investors reporting that the financial products they purchased with Yinlai Wealth were overdue and not able to be paid back. Some of the victims said that many investors, some from other cities, all went to the offices defend their rights but their efforts were frequently suppressed by the local authorities.
One victim, Wang Yan, is a salesperson at Yinlai Wealth in Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province. She said that Yinlai Wealth’s asset investors exceeded 10,000 people and involved in more than 3 billion yuan (US$418 million). She personally had invested more than 700,000 yuan (US$97,700) and introduced five clients to the company. Now she cannot get her money back.
She continued saying: “The client was throwing a tantrum at my house, telling me to ask for the money. I could not do anything. My parents are not healthy either, they both are more than 80 years old. The client told me that if the money is gone, her life is gone, too. We have been writing letters, more than a thousand letters, but still heard nothing.”
On May 6, Wang Yan and hundreds of investors went to a police station in Shanghai, holding signs and kneeling to demand compensation for the damages left by the company. But were violently dispersed by the police.
Li Ming, who runs a clothing business in Xuzhou City, Jiangsu Province, said he initially saw a photo of the bank owner, Pao Xiaodong, with a leader of the Chinese Communist Party, and also saw Yinlai Wealth’s business certificate, business license, and many honorary certificates, so he believed in the company. Not only did he invest 1.1 million yuan (US$150,000) himself but also introduced four friends to invest.
Li Ming further said: “In the group of investors, the highest investment was more than 40 million yuan and there were investments of 20 million yuan and 30 million yuan. A professor at China University of Mining and Technology invested more than 10 million yuan. China University of Mining and Technology has been hit the hardest because many professors, retired seniors, old party members, and old cadres are victims.”
Li Ming said that the victims involved came from different parts of the society, and his friend told him that two elderly people in Yancheng City had been unable to withstand their new financial reality and committed suicide by jumping down from a building.
The CCP’s mouthpiece media claimed on March 17 that Yinlai Assets Management Co. Ltd. had set up a private online platform called “Pocket Gold” and an offline store named “Yinlai Wealth” to sell various financial management products. It reported that the funds had been raised illegally with the promise of paying high returns, ranging from 6 percent to 13 percent as bait. Nine suspects have now been arrested.

Geopolitically, South Korea and the Korean peninsula have always been the main obstacle for the Chinese Communist Party to assert hegemony over Asia. Therefore, the CCP has been developing a pro-China strategy in South Korea. Scholars and professors from the National Association of Professors expressed concerns. A discussion was held to analyze the status and harms of the pro-China policy from multiple perspectives.
Li Zhirong, Professor of Chinese Studies at Keimyung University, said: “If South Korea becomes a pro-China country, it will give the Korean government excuses to gain interests out of it. However, standing with the Chinese Communist Party is equivalent to giving a fatal blow to the U.S.- led liberal international system.”
Li Zhirong said: “In order to make South Korea pro-China, the CCP conducts in-depth infiltration tactics from holistic perspectives including political, economic, social, and cultural.”
Professor Li said that from a geopolitical perspective, South Korea and the Korean Peninsula are the first targets of the CCP in expanding Asian hegemony. The free and democratic South Korea and the Korea-US alliance are also considered as the main obstacle by the CCP to expand its hegemony. Therefore, a pro-China strategy was launched for South Korea.
The participants discussed that the Korean government should stay away from the CCP during this turning point in the world and not fall into the so-called fantasy of “U.S. in decline and China in prosperity.”
According to Cao Chenghuan, a Ph.D. in political science and professor of Politics at Kyonggi University: “China’s internal rule, along with the external expansion policy, have exhausted the CCP, and excessive bluffs have actually caused the CCP and its People’s Liberation Army to be rapidly depleted. In fact, it has been split into several forces internally, which control different parts of the economy.”
Cui Yuanmu, professor of law school at Ewha Womans University, said:
“At present, with the condemnation of the CCP virus, the world starts evaluating the losses and rejecting the CCP, and many international companies are withdrawing from China.”
Scholars believe that the CCP is struggling during the crisis due to its one-party totalitarian political system. At the same time, its expansionary totalitarianism is also facing resistance and challenges from the democratic movements in Hong Kong and Taiwan. The pro-social justice National Association of Professors is a conservative citizen group composed of 6,300 professors from 377 universities in South Korea.

Many European athletes have previously indicated that they might have been infected by the CCP virus during the 7th Military World Games held on in Wuhan on October 18th to 27th, 2019.
On May 25th, a Wuhan visitor told NTD that she had also developed symptoms of the CCP virus last October. She indicated that she had symptoms such as coughing and fever during the time of the Military World Games.
The Wuhan visitor, Ms. Wang, said: “I felt like I had the CCP virus. I was coughing and having fever during the time of the Military World Games and vomited blood after 13 days. The symptoms were severe at the time and I went to the hospital after I could not hang on any longer. The hospital was going to admit me as a critical patient but the person who was monitoring me said I could not stay in the hospital overnight.”
Ms. Wang was under surveillance by monitors as a result of the appeal. They did not allow Ms. Wang to be hospitalized so she had to stay in the hospital during the day and return to the hotel at night. However, it was difficult to receive treatments this way so she was later admitted to the Wuhan First Hospital, but the conditions of the stay were extremely poor.

A woman from Wuhan, named Ms. Wang suspects that she might’ve contracted the CCP virus as early as October 2019 when she developed CCP virus symptoms and had to be admitted to the hospital. After recovering, she tried to contact her doctor but she was not able to reach her, and even the head nurse who helped treat Ms. Wang began to deny the existence of her doctor or that they were in any way involved in treating her.

Around 5 pm on May 22nd, Wuhan petitioner Ms. Iris was intercepted by more than a dozen policemen and community workers after she did an interview with a foreign media reporter. Related videos were quickly spread online. Iris said on Twitter that after she was interviewed by a BBC reporter she was followed closely by three policemen and seven or eight community workers. They stopped her in a small roadside park. They even stopped the taxi she called in front of the BBC reporter’s car.
Wuhan petitioner Iris said: “He [BBC reporter] just asked some views of Wuhan residents. I just expressed my own thoughts directly. I didn’t exaggerate anything, and I didn’t know that [police and community workers] would come to intercept me.”
She asked: “Are you trying to expose your ugliness? ”
Iris said that the police and community workers wouldn’t let her go and pulled her away. She called a taxi, but they blocked the front of the car, not letting the taxi driver go and even threatening him.
Iris revealed to reporters that last October, the Wuhan Metro was under construction near her house, which made cracks in her house, making it unlivable.
She went to the subway office to defend her rights.
However, her shoulder was torn by community workers, causing irreversible injuries which made her unable to work until now.
Despite filing complaints many times, she didn’t receive any response.
But after accepting an interview from a foreign media, suddenly a community worker called her, saying that they would resolve some of her claims, but they only reimbursed some medical expenses from the early stage.
Iris said that her road to defending her rights is so bumpy.
Iris said: “For example, I went to the office for letters and calls. The person I was going to file a complaint with was the person who responded to my case.
What kind of effect do you think it would have?
No effect at all.
They even fabricated the responses to petitions.
They are totally unsupervised.
I think it’s so scary. They’re putting on shows themselves.”
Iris also tweeted that she is really patriotic and hopes that the political system will be more open. Based on this principle, she only gave some mild criticism in a limited scope. But because of it, she had such an unexpected experience. It made her feel scared.
