Hundreds of property owners who purchased new homes at the renowned Athletes Village in Wuhan organized a protest in front of the sales office on May 2, demanding to cancel their contracts after learning that their homes were used as quarantine sites during the peak of CCP virus outbreak without their consent.

More than 40 policemen came to break up the protest. One person was injured and ten were arrested.

The 2019 Military World Games were held in Wuhan from Oct. 18–27, 2019. The Athletes Village, where athletes stayed during the games, appeared on Chinese state TV several times and attracted public attention for the amenities it offered. After the games, China Poly Group Corporation was hired as the sales agency to sell these homes.

Buyers are furious that the homes they bought were used as quarantine sites without their approval and are demanding to cancel their purchase contract.

Chinese state media recently reported that wheat stripe rust (yellow rust) was found in over 2.1 million acres of wheat fields in 9 provinces, the worst situation in a decade.

So far, only Shaanxi Province reported specific figures—nearly 494,000 acres of wheat fields in Shaanxi has been affected and it was estimated that the rust fungus would eventually infect 1.5 million acres all over the province.

In order to prevent Chinese aluminum producers from invading the Korean market, the Korean aluminum industry began jointly resisting a Chinese aluminum giant from entering the market in South Jeolla Province’s Gwangyang Bay Area since 2018.

In November 2018, Henan Mingtai Aluminum, a Chinese aluminum sheet manufacturer, signed an investment contract with the Gwangyang Bay Area Free Economic Zone authority. It plans to invest $40 billion won ($32.8 million USD) to produce aluminum products. The groundbreaking ceremony was held in December 2018 to kick off the construction of the plant, but the project was opposed by the Korean aluminum industry.

Mingtai Aluminum is the second-most prolific producer of rolled aluminium in China. The Korean aluminum industry believes that its annual production of rolled aluminum is equivalent to over 80% of South Korea’s, which would severely undercut South Korea’s domestic aluminium producers.

Jiang Haoxiang, Vice Chairman of the Korea Nonferrous Metals Association, said, “The production scale of Mingtai Aluminum in South Korea is 100,000 tons of plates and 20,000 tons of foil a year, which is equivalent to the production scale of two Korean companies. Thus, losses are inevitable for Korea’s domestic producers.”

South Korean officials believe that introducing such a substantial player in the global aluminium market to South Korea will surely drive up aluminum production, with a corresponding drop in aluminum prices. The Korean industry suspects that by entering South Korea’s market under unfavorable cost conditions, Chinese manufacturing companies’ might be using South Korea as a roundabout export base. If this is the case, there may be potential trade friction between South Korea and the United States in the future.

Jiang Haoxiang said, “The Trump administration has proposed higher anti-dumping duties. We have concerns that China is using South Korea as a production base to enter the US market.”

The industry is doubtful about the “employment promotion” effect of the Foreign Investment Promotion Act. Meanwhile, it is concerned that unreasonable foreign investments will cause Korean companies to close down, leading to an increased unemployment rate and possible leakage of advanced technology.

Jiang Haoxiang said, “Our domestic companies and Mingtai Aluminum produce many similar aluminum products. South Korea’s ultra-thin technology is actually more advanced than China’s. Thus, we are worried about whether the ultra-thin technology and other advanced technology will flow into China.”

The Korean industry is very worried that if large Chinese companies such as Mingtai Aluminum successfully invest in South Korea, more investments will follow, leading to more domestic companies suffering losses.

Since April 13, there have been no new confirmed local CCP virus cases in Taiwan. Hong Kong reported no new confirmed virus cases since April 19, ending on May 12 with one new case reported. The development of the epidemic in Taiwan and in Hong Kong have presented a different picture than that of other affected countries and regions in the world.

With no new confirmed cases for 30 days in Taiwan, the Central Epidemic Command Centre (CECC) has announced that it will look into allowing anywhere from 1,000 to 2,000 spectators to watch the Chinese Professional Baseball League games (CPBL).

The commander of CECC, Chen Shizhong said,
“For the first time the CPBL opened its game to spectators, several of us went there to participate in such a festive event. As a great job had been done in maintaining order, we could discuss if the number of attendees should be relaxed to 2,000. It is really healthy for people to be dancing out there, and it is really a positive thing for society.”

CECC Expert Zhang Shangchun expressed that if no new cases have been reported within two quarantine periods, i.e. within 28 days, then from a public health standpoint, the Taiwanese community is quite safe.

There are currently 440 confirmed cases and 7 deaths reported in Taiwan. Chen Shizhong warned that wearing masks, washing hands, and social distancing are the most basic lines of defense, and these regulations will not be easily abandoned unless considerable scientific breakthroughs have been made.

In Hong Kong, as of May 13, there were a total of 1,048 confirmed cases and 4 deaths reported. Three new cases recently reported were all imported—two of which were patients returning to Hong Kong from Pakistan and one from the U.K.

Former Vice President of PACE (The Council of Europe), Göran Lindblad, said: “The Confucius Institute resembles an old tradition, a bad tradition from the Mussolini Fascist regime in Italy, establishing institutes for language all over. And they were centrals for spying, and for influence. So the Confucius Institutes are actually influential institutes, they try to influence the students in the universities and also in the schools, in order to teach Chinese, spread the Chinese ways, so they are also teaching politics, and they say it’s a brainwashing system, and that’s bad. And (they) also use it to find out things about the system in the country where they are.”

Voiceover: In recent years, the “wolf warrior” diplomacy used by the Chinese ambassador to Sweden has caused widespread resentment among Swedes, and the deadlock between the two countries has only intensified. Recently, a U.S. official delivered a speech about freedom of speech and democracy in Mandarin, but the video was deleted less than 5 minutes after it was published on the Chinese social media platform Weibo. Meanwhile, Chinese Communist officials freely publish articles criticizing the U.S. government on American media.

The Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs under the Department of State tweeted the following on May 6: “Last night @washingtonpost carried Chinese Ambassador Cui Tiankai’s Op-Ed because that’s what freedom of the press looks like. Also last night, Matt Pottinger’s speech on Weibo disappeared within 5 minutes because that’s what censorship looks like.”

Later, the Embassy of the United States in Beijing retweeted this tweet and also translated it to Chinese.

The Chinese Ambassador in the U.S., Cui Tiankai, published an article with the title “Ignoring the facts to blame China will only make things worse” in the Washington Post and the content of the article aligns with the Foreign Ministry of China, which seeks to avoid taking responsibility for the consequences caused by the coverup of the virus at the early stage.

Deputy National Security Advisor of the United States, Matt Pottinger, was invited to a seminar discussing the relationship between the U.S. and China hosted by the University of Virginia on May 4. Pottinger delivered a speech about freedom of speech and democracy using his perfect Mandarin.

An observer on Beijing current affairs, Hua Po, expressed, “The great thing about democracy in the U.S. is that even though I 100% disagree with your point of view, I 100% support your freedom of speech. This is western society. In the Chinese Communist regime, everyone is only allowed to speak in unity. No dissent, no discord.”

Matt Pottinger was a journalist for Reuters and the Washington Post. He was deployed to China for 7 years where he spoke fluent Mandarin. While in China, he was arrested by the police for reporting on the corruption inside the CCP and was also beaten by National Security Officers. As a result, he understands perfectly the threats posed by the CCP’s censorship on freedom of the press.

In his speech, he said that in today’s China, you need courage in order to talk to reporters and to be a reporter. It is extremely difficult to find local and foreign investigative journalists in China. Many citizen journalists like Chen Qiushi, Fang Bin, and Li Zehua, who were trying to disclose the truth about the epidemic in Wuhan, disappeared. In recent months, the number of foreign journalists who were expelled by the Chinese Communist Party was more than the Soviet Union did in 10 years.

A Chinese netizen tweeted that his Twitter account was blocked by the webmaster for 3 days with the excuse of “spreading bad rumors,” but all he did was simply forward the information given by the Embassy of the United States in Beijing to his group chat. He said, “What Matt Pottinger and Mike Pompeo said was ‘freedom of speech,’ but in the eyes of an authoritarian regime, it is ‘rumors.’”

Commentator on current affairs, Xing Tian Xing, expressed, “The CCP utilizes the rhetoric of freedom of speech from overseas to brainwash the Chinese people. It wants to give the people a sense of ‘overseas people have heard us and are supporting us’ and achieves control over the public opinion inside China.”

Hua Po indicated that it is impossible for the CCP to avoid responsibility. He continued by saying, “The article written by Cui Tainkai aimed to divert attention and escape from the scrutiny of other nations. Nevertheless, the CCP indeed suppressed freedom of speech and covered up the epidemic. This is supported by evidence.”

Xing Tian Xing believes that the pandemic and all other natural disasters occurring in China are a warning from God, signaling that the CCP is on the verge of extermination.

Hebei is a major agricultural province in China and an important producer of cereal crops. Under the CCP’s rule, grain land is typically allocated on the basis of household size to ensure that each rural household produces enough for its own consumption needs. However, land seizures in the name of commercial and residential need is frequent. It is a well-known phenomenon of bureaucratic corruption. This phenomenon has not ceased despite looming food shortages during the pandemic.

Zhengding County sits in the river basin of Hebei. Recently, following five land acquisition notices issued by the county, local officials hired tractors to run over wheat fields just as the wheat was about to mature. Local peasants protested the action, as they were not given proper consultation and negotiation. The following video shows two tractors stopped by peasants who placed themselves under them.

A woman said,
“Look at what the officials of Zhengding county are doing.
This piece of land is [approximately 0.83 acre] alloted to 14 peasants. They won’t even spare us the green wheat. They enforce this without any negotiation, nothing.”
“Just look, these tractors. See all these tractors here.”
“Look at what these officials have been doing.
They have confiscated our cell phones.
We have finally located a junk cell phone so that we can record this.
Just take a look, everyone.”
“This is Jiaojiaopu Village, Nanniu Township, Zhengding County.
This is the land allotted to us.
In the name of road construction, this is how they do it.
We won’t be able to survive.
They occupy our land and leave us with nothing.
Everyone,have a look.”

After the video was made available online, Chinese netizens commented:

Comment 1: “Who are these idiots? Are they still human? Why must life-saving food be eliminated?”

Comment 2: “These bastards, even if they have to grab the land by cheating the peasants, wouldn’t it be OK just to wait for a few days after it’s harvested?”

Comment 3: “While you are starving to death, do you see any communist officials eating less? They don’t care about the people.”

Comment 4: “[The farmers] survived the drought and insect damage, and the wheat field that was about to be harvested was to be destroyed, the family had to lay themselves under the tractor and fight with their lives.”

The father of Wuhan resident Zhang Hai was infected with the CCP virus during a surgery in hospital and died in February this year. Recently, Zhang Hai proposed to commemorate all the Wuhan people who died from the CCP virus and to hold those who covered up the outbreak responsible. However, he ended up becoming a target of suppression by the CCP.

On May 4, Wuhan resident Zhang Hai initiated a fundraising campaign for a “monument to commemorate the victims of the CCP virus in Wuhan” on Weibo, hoping to raise 100,000 yuan ($14,144 USD) to build a monument to remember the people who died from the CCP virus in Wuhan.

Firing pepper pellets and clearing out protesters—Hong Kong authorities arrested more than 200 people during pro-democracy protests after a sing-along demonstration at a shopping mall.

Hundreds of riot police were deployed to disperse protesters across the city last Sunday, as protesters chanted for freedom and held up banners calling for a revolution. On Wednesday, May 6, President Donald Trump expressed that the economic impact of the CCP virus on the United States is worse than the attack on Pearl Harbor and 9/11. Also, several senior Senators proposed bills on May 7 to sanction the Chinese Communist Party and to hold them accountable for the damages.

President Trump: “This is the worst attack we have ever had. This is worse than Pearl Harbor. This is worse than the World Trade Center. There has never been an attack like this.” He further emphasized, “The epidemic could have been stopped at the source. Could have been stopped in China.”

More than 70,000 Americans have died from the CCP virus. President Trump expressed that this number is real but that he does not believe the number the CCP gave. This suggests that the CCP falsified their death tolls.

President Trump: “I don’t believe them from China and I don’t believe them from other countries where I see a very tiny number of people died.”

The Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Lindsey Graham, indicated in an interview with Fox News on Tuesday, May 5, that they are going to propose a bill to sanction the CCP and to hold them accountable.

Senator Graham: “To sanction China until they let us go into China and go into the lab and find out, with the international community, what happened. They need to cooperate and investigate what happened.”

It is understood that the proposed bill might include sanctions such as imposing tariffs on Chinese products. Senator Ted Cruz also proposed a bill to call for economic sanctions against those Chinese Communist Party officials who need to be responsible for the pandemic. Members of both houses of the United States have introduced a series of motions to hold the CCP accountable.

Republican Leader of the U.S. House of Representative, Kevin McCarthy, announced on May 7 the establishment of a Republican-led China Task Force aimed at conducting probes and making recommendations to combat threats from China.

The Task Force consists of 15 Republican members and will thoroughly investigate a wide range of China-related issues and report with recommendations in October.

“They will be looking at a wide range of China-related issues, including influence operations targeting the U.S., including our universities, think tanks and media outlets, economic threats to our government and our allies, efforts to gain the technological advantage and role in the origin and spread of COVID-19,” McCarthy said.

“For more than a year, both leaders of the parties have been putting together a bipartisan committee on China with an equal number of Republicans and an equal number of Democrats,” however, the Democratic Party opted not to move forward during the final stages in February. McCarthy said the stakes are too high to sit idly by so the Republican Party has to go ahead with the motion.

McCarthy: “I am not sure why (the Democratic Party opted out), but given what has now transpired with this virus, the lies China has down, it’s more important now than ever that they join with us.”

He continued: “China’s cover-up directly led to this crisis. The Chinese Communist Party of China hid the seriousness of this disease, led a propaganda campaign blaming the U.S., used their medical supplies to exert influence and continue to refuse international experts to investigate what happened.”

Currently, the CCP virus has killed more than 70,000 people in the U.S., causing a huge downturn and plunge in the economy. Congress has called for holding the CCP accountable for this pandemic. Rep. Michael McCaul, the chairman of the China Task Force, advocates a detailed tracing of the origin of the pandemic, holding the Chinese Communist Party accountable, and full-scale countermeasures against its malicious actions.

The exact number of people in Wuhan who died from the CCP virus remains a mystery to date. In order to prevent the families of the deceased from holding the CCP accountable, the CCP not only took full control of funeral arrangements, but is also closely monitoring the families by closing down their WeChat groups and by reprimanding and threatening the group organizers. The police even warned that if more than five people congregate to defend their rights, they will be arrested.

Chinese people have a 5-day public holiday from May 1 to 5 in 2020 to observe the country’s Labor Day. In the past years, tourist sites and shopping malls were always packed with crowds during this holiday. But a video shows a once-bustling shopping mall in Wuhan with only a few customers on Labor Day.

Around the same time, there was a long line outside Union Hospital, a top hospital in Wuhan. These were patients waiting to take nucleic acid tests to find out if they have contracted the CCP virus.

The videographer at the entrance of the hospital could not see where the end of the line was. He learned from a couple of patients who had completed the diagnosis that the cost for a nucleic acid test is 260 yuan ($36 USD). As they also have to do a CT scan and blood test, with a total cost of more than 500 yuan ($70 USD). A migrant worker said that for low-income patients like him, it is a lot of money.
