The problems are caused by the oil and gas industry in China being a monopoly. Thus, the raw materials are only available to those certain privileged groups.
Lidi (alias) is a shareholder in a sanitary products company in Yiwu, Zhejiang. Driven by the huge market, the company is also producing masks. He mentioned, the melt-blown fabric (a continuous filament polymer) is only available through agents with good connections with Sinopec, the China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation. Therefore, any other sources of melt-blown fabric in China would only supply fake products.

Wuhan Optics Valley Pedestrian Street is considered a paradise for shopping, dining, and entertainment. Tourists visiting Wuhan often put it on their list of must-see attractions.
On April 9, the day after the removal of city-wide lockdown, dozens of business owners held a protest in the shopping district, demanding one year’s free rent.
Protesters:
One year’s free rent, or we will stop the lease and quit.
However, their landlord, a state-owned real estate company, refused to negotiate any form of rent reduction with them.
A video released in early May showed that almost all shops and restaurants on the Pedestrian Street remain closed.

Opened in November 2013, the Wuhan Optics Valley Pedestrian Street, which spans nearly one mile, is said to be the longest pedestrian-only street in the world. The area is composed of five blocks named after their respective architectural styles; Contemporary Charm, Spanish Charm, German Charm, Italian Charm, and French Charm.
With more than 1,000 shops, including themed restaurants, beauty salons, fitness clubs, and an entertainment city, the street used to attract visitors seeking a diverse shopping and dining experience.

As the public started to focus on whether the Wuhan Institute of Virology leaked the CCP virus, the institute’s official website secretly deleted some references and photos in April. Commentators believe that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) wants to shift the blame by eliminating evidence.
On May 3, the British Daily Mail reported on photos showing Wuhan scientists handling bats without any safety precautions at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (Wuhan P4 Laboratory). The evidence has been systematically deleted from its official website. These photos show that during a series of processes in catching, sampling, and then dissecting and analyzing bats in the laboratory, Wuhan scientists wore minimal protective equipment while handling the deadly bats.

Victims in Hubei Province, the epicenter of the pandemic, also wish to sue the government. Yang Zhanqing, a Chinese visiting scholar in the United States who has been paying attention to livelihood issues in China, recently publicized a lawsuit template to help the victim families.
The 14-page template, called Legal Template for Novel Coronavirus Damage Compensation, along with a procedural guide for filing the lawsuit, was prepared by an 18-member attorney group from outside China.

Zhangjiakou is known as Beijing’s Northern Gate for its strategic importance of several transport expressways that link Beijing to the northwestern region of China. As the pandemic continues, the regime has eased restrictions in Beijing on March 30. However, local Zhangjiakou authorities have put extensive police street patrols in place.
Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province: On the morning of April 28, authorities in Zhangjiakou launched a comprehensive armed patrol ceremony in the city’s main urban area. According to reports, a total of eight 24-hour police patrol teams were dispatched in Qiaodong District, Qiaoxi District, and the Economic Development Zone.

Top Republicans from seven different House committees have sent a letter to Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, asking for information about the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP’s) investment in American colleges and universities to advance its overseas interests and promote its propaganda. The letter also details the CCP’s efforts to suppress research into the origins of the CCP virus (Covid-19).
Seven House Republicans, including Virginia Foxx, ranking member of the House Committee on Education and Labor, Jim Jordan, ranking member of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, and Michael McCaul, ranking member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, wrote in a letter on May 4: “Chinese efforts to silence academic research they disagree with are not new. China (CCP) has strategically invested in U.S. academia to attempt to steal confidential information and technology from U.S. companies, and even the U.S. government.”
They also said in the letter, “For some time, we have been concerned about the potential for the Chinese government to use its strategic investments to turn American college campuses into indoctrination platforms for American students.”
The lawmakers question whether the U.S. higher education institutions that receive federal funding should be allowed to receive funds from China, the CCP or other affiliated organizations.
Ranking Member Jim Jordan said, “We cannot allow a dangerous communist regime to buy access to our institutions of higher education, plain and simple.
A spokesperson of the Department of Education (date) thanked lawmakers for their support, saying they looked forward to cooperating with Congress and federal agencies to ensure that colleges and universities comply with laws and regulations regarding receiving foreign funding.
Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, expressed her concern over universities failing to report hundreds of millions of dollars in foreign gifts and contracts and has launched investigations into multiple universities.
Resource The Education Department has investigated the University of Texas System regarding its involvement with the Infectious Diseases Laboratory in Wuhan, China, the most likely source of the COVID-19 outbreak. According to the U.S. Department of Education, the UT system reported 10 contracts with Huawei and 24 contracts with Chinese state-owned universities between 2014 and 2019, totaling nearly $13 million. In their letter, the House Republican lawmakers request that the Department of Education disclose relevant information before May 11.

Schools resume in China despite pandemic still likely being severe.
In Zhejiang Province, parents were requested to make hats with one meter brims for their children to wear to school. Students are attending school with facial masks and these hats to socially distance.
Anecdotal accounts from netizens??? have revealed that the pandemic situation is still severe in China, although the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) ongoing cover up of the outbreak and censorship of COVID-19-related information has parents trusting the regime, which claims that China is nearly free of the virus. But the lack of transparent information is putting these children’s lives at risk.

The video shows a white banner stating, “Right to Know, Why Cover-Up” and a black banner stating, “Injustice! Lost Lives.”
On the wall, there’s also a banner that reads, “Give My Child Back, Give Me The Truth.”
A man said while shooting the video:
“The school has not yet come out to solve the problem. The kid died yesterday afternoon. Please everyone look at this and share this video around to your circle of friends.”
According to a netizen’s comment, the child had a headache.
Rather than notifying the parents or taking the kid to the doctor, the school kept the kid isolated. After the student’s death, the parents defended their rights in front of the school to know how their child had died and recover the body.

In Henan Province, outside another high school, an ambulance was seen with workers wearing protective gear the evening of April 13th.
A woman said while shooting the video:
“Ambulance workers wearing protective clothes have arrived. They are outside of No. 2 Middle School in Pingdingshan City, Henan Province. Four students have been removed. It is really frightening to see this.”

The CCP virus outbreak had infected over 1.2 million people in the United States and caused 77,201 deaths as of Saturday morning, according to government data collected by Johns Hopkins University.

This year marks the 101 anniversary of the May Fourth Movement and Matt Pottinger, Deputy National Security Advisor of the United States, delivered a speech in perfect Mandarin to both talk about the relationship between the United States and China and about the civic-minded Chinese people, using the May Fourth Movement. He pointed out that Dr. Li Wenliang, who first bravely revealed the CCP virus, is heir to the spirit of the May Fourth Movement. At the same time, Matt also praised Taiwan as living evidence of democracy and said China can be democratic as well.
Matt Pottinger, Deputy National Security Advisor of the United States, “To my mind, the heirs of May Fourth are civic-minded citizens who commit small acts of bravery. Dr. Li Wenliang was such a person.”
Using perfect Mandarin, Pottinger named Dr. Li Wenliang, as ophthalmologist who was not afraid of the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) suppression and was brave enough to reveal the truth about the epidemic. These heirs also include disappeared citizen journalists, Chen Qiushi, Fang Bin and Li Zehua, who tried to shed light on the outbreak in Wuhan, and the millions of Hong Kong citizens who peacefully demonstrated for the rule of law last year.
Pottinger continued, “When small acts of bravery are stamped out by governments, big acts of bravery follow. We have seen big acts of moral and physical courage recently. When a privileged few grow too remote and self-interested, populism is what pulls them back or pitches them overboard. It has a kinetic energy.”
On May 4, a White House official talked about the May Fourth Movement that happened a century ago. Now, where is the heart of the May Fourth Movement? Pottinger also talked about the aspiration for democracy in the May Fourth Movement and quoted Hu Shih and the drafter of the “Declaration of Human Rights,” P.C. Chang. He even mentioned today’s democratic Taiwan to repute the ideology of the CCP.
Pottinger: “The cliche ‘The Chinese people can’t be trusted with democracy’ was, as both P.C. Chang and Hu Shih knew, the most unpatriotic idea of all. Taiwan today is a living repudiation of that threadbare mistruth.” He warned the Chinese Communist Party that suppression of freedom causes backlash of public opinion and believes that the May Fourth Movement belongs to the Chinese people.

President Donald Trump signed an executive order on May 1 to protect the U.S. Bulk-Power system from cyber and other attacks. The order could stop imports of certain products coming from China and Russia.
The U.S. bulk-power system provides the electricity that supports the country’s national defense, vital emergency services, critical infrastructure, economy, and daily life including households and companies.
Deputy Secretary of Energy Dan Brouillette said Trump’s latest executive order, “Securing the United States Bulk-Power System,” will make it more difficult for foreign adversaries to target U.S. critical infrastructure. It prohibits federal agencies and U.S. persons from obtaining goods, products, and materials for the bulk-power system from companies or anyone situated within foreign adversaries where the transaction poses an unacceptable risk to U.S. national security or the safety and security of U.S. citizens.
Former Director of National Intelligence Daniel Coats expressed in the “Worldwide Threat Assessment of the U.S. Intelligence Community 2019” report that “China, Russia and other countries present a persistent cyber espionage threat and a growing attack threat to our core military and critical infrastructure system.”
The Ministry of Energy said, “Current government procurement rules often result in contracts being awarded to the lowest-cost bids, a vulnerability that can be exploited by those with malicious intent.”

A mainland Chinese journalist and freelance columnist Chen Jieren, suspected of alleging that Hunan province’s Shaoyang city party secretary Deng Guangyan was involved in a major corruption cover-up, was convicted of “picking quarrels and provoking trouble, extortion, illegal business operations and bribery.” He has been sentenced to 15 years in jail. His younger brother Chen Weiren was also sentenced.
Guiyang county court in Hunan province announced on April 30 that it convicted Mr. Chen of “picking quarrels and provoking troubles, extortion, illegal business operations, and bribery” and fined him 7 million yuan ($990,000). His brother was sentenced to four years in prison for “picking quarrels and provoking troubles” and “extortion and blackmail” charges, and was fined 10,000 RMB ($1,400). An associate, Liu Min, was exempted from criminal penalties after being convicted of “picking quarrels and provoking troubles.”
Chen Jieren published an article online on June 25, 2018, accusing Deng Guangyan of gross misconduct and malfeasance. Mr. Chen went missing over the following days and was later confirmed to be in criminal detention with the police.
Mr. Guo, a Hunan netizen, said: “According to the Constitution, he is not guilty. They should not even arrest him. The reality is that if there is anything against their interests, they will find a reason to punish you. The judging criteria of the CCP is not the Constitution and the criminal law, buThe court claimed that since 2015, Chen Jieren has used the alias “Internet Big V” to publish false or negative information online, to maliciously exaggerate certain mass incidents, to attack and defame the CCP, the judicial organ, and its staff, to instigate troubles, and to extort public and private property.

A Hunan netizen said that the official media reported that Chen Jieren had hundreds of millions of dollars in assets. The court did not confiscate all of his property. He did not appeal either, which means he was probably forced to compromise and plead guilty.
Mr. Xie, a Hunan netizen, said: “Some of his posts are very sharp, but after a while, they are gone. He has exposed too many things. He attacked the secretary of the CCP. Even his brother was implicated, as well as his ex-wife. During the investigation process, he and his family were all in silence. He didn’t even appeal. I think he compromised. ”
It’s reported by the Chinese Human Rights Defenders that Chen Jieren graduated from Tsinghua University Law School and had worked for several state media outlets, including Southern Weekend, China Youth Daily, Beijing Daily, and People’s Daily, and published over 2,000 commentary articles. Chen was fired from China Youth Daily in 2003 for uncovering a prostitution ring involving students at Wuhan University, causing a scandal; he was demoted as editor-in-chief of China Philanthropy Times for criticising a government portal in 2006; and in 2011, he was sacked from his position in at People’s Daily Online’s Jiangsu Window for “too much criticism of the government.”

Guangzhou, in China’s southern Guangdong Province, is known for its numerous fashion wholesale manufacturing markets. Until recently, more than 100,000 workers from Hubei Province have been employed in garment factories or fashion shops in Guangzhou’s Haizhu District. However, due to the CCP virus pandemic, the garment industry has lost a large number of customers, and factory and shop owners are struggling to pay their rent.
On April 21 and 22, business owners in the Haizhu District held protests in the streets to demand rent reductions, only to be met with arrests and suppression by police.
The Chinese-language Epoch Times was able to talk with two garment factory owners and a landlord in the fashion market on April 30.

By May 3, the city of Harbin reported zero new cases of the CCP virus for six days in a row. However, locals witnessed tightened restrictions, empty train stations, and few people walking on the streets.
Bus passengers must scan a health barcode to get onto a bus.
Tall fences were erected at entrances to residential communities to prevent residents from going out freely. Vendors have to knock on the fences to let residents know that they are here to sell food.
This is Harbin Train station. It is May 3 and it is raining today. Not a single passenger is here at the train station. Harbin citizens are all aware that even entering and exiting the train station will involve a lot of hassle. So there aren’t any passengers. Absolutely none.
The official report tells us Harbin had zero new infections in six consecutive days, and starting from 12 a.m. last night, the risk level was changed from medium to low. So, everyone, do something to cooperate with the Harbin officials.

Bus passengers must scan a QR code when boarding the bus. Now the three passengers who just went on are scanning it.
This is the situation in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province. All passengers must scan the QR code. Otherwise, they are forbidden to ride on the bus.
Again, six consecutive days of zero new cases in Harbin and the risk level has been changed to low.
We are not allowed to go to the riverside any more. It’s raining heavily now and it’s getting cold. Vendors used to knock on the fence to peddle and now they are forbidden to do so. At Daowai District, any vendor who knocks on the fence will be arrested, and then be subjected to two months’ detention and be fined $5,000 yuan ($708 USD).
