Dozens of men rode horses through a bonfire in the small Spanish village of San Bartolome de Pinares in the northwest of Madrid on Wednesday.
The event was held in honour of Saint Anthony, the patron saint of animals, on the evening before his feast day is celebrated in the Roman Catholic faith.
The age-old tradition, called ‘Luminarias’ dates back over 500 years, is believed to purify and protect the animal from diseases in the coming year.
