Due to the coronavirus outbreak all over China, many stores have had no income at all for the past six weeks. In the northeastern Chinese city of Shenyang and the southeastern cities of Guangzhou and Shenzhen, tenants (business owners) organized group protests to demand rent returns.

Chinese authorities have not yet initiated a disaster relief program to subsidize private businesses to help them survive the coronavirus outbreak. Many businesses may face bankruptcy in the coming months.
