Nigerian Diplomat Protests Mistreatment of Nigerian Citizens in China|CCP Virus | Coronavirus

On April 10, local epidemic control officials attempted to forcibly take three Nigerians to a hotel for quarantine and seized their passports, although all three have tested negative for the CCP virus. Razaq Lawal, head of the Nigerian consulate in Guangzhou, rushed to the scene to rescue these Nigerian citizens.

In the following video that has gone viral on the Internet, Lawal lashed out at Chinese officials for discriminating against Nigerians by singling them out for quarantine and illegally seizing their passports.

Razaq Lawal:
Give me all the Nigerian passports. How many? I have three here. One… How many?
(For Nigerian who just arrived in China,) 14 days is acceptable by us. Another 14 days, you didn’t communicate to us that you are going to do another 14 days after 14 days.
They’re testing negative and then they’re giving them the paper. Why they are giving them another 14 days? That’s one.

Two, all you police, remember, this passport belongs to the federal government of Nigeria. In line with international practice, no country has the right to seize the international passport of another country. I just took it back from them, after they seized it.

Man: I know, you have that.

Razaq Lawal:
Why are they seizing Nigerian passports? It does not belong to China. If you seize a Nigerian passport, it’s like you’re seizing Nigeria as a whole. It is not acceptable.

The third one I’m going to tell you, you didn’t communicate to us that you’re going to all the Nigerian houses, and them you are going to ask them to come out and go quarantine them.
Did you communicate us? No. Nobody communicate us.

If you want to fo your policy of 14 days, then shut down everybody! don’t discriminate. Everybody—including you, as the director. Everybody you see as whole! That is exactly what Nigeria did.

Nigeria shut everything sown! Nobody moves.

We didn’t say only Nigerians should go to work while the Chinese are quarantined. No! Everybody.

The next day, Femi Gbajabiamila, Nigeria’s speaker in the House of Representatives, posted a video of him pressing the Chinese ambassador on the issue on Twitter.

“It’s almost undiplomatic the way I’m talking, but it’s because I’m upset about what’s going on,” Femi Gbajabiamila says.

Nigerian Foreign Minister Geoffrey Onyeama also summoned the Chinese ambassador to express “extreme concern” and call for an immediate government response.

The city of Guangzhou has the largest African migrant population in Asia. Most of them were attracted by business opportunities in Guangzhou as it is a major center for the purchase of cheap knockoff goods to be exported to Africa. Some others attend universities in Guangzhou.

According to official data released during the Ebola outbreak in 2014 to address public concerns, there were 16,000 Africans including North Africans residing in Guangzhou. Among them 4,000 were long term residents.

Chinese Businesses Struggle as a Result of Pandemic

Many Chinese industries have suffered tough times as a result of businesses closing down due to the CCP virus pandemic. The regime continues to ignore people’s basic needs and doesn’t provide subsidies or relief when they need it the most. People have protested in waves through walkouts demanding pandemic aid relief. Meanwhile the regime is pushing people to return to work.

Recently, a clothing company owner Chen Dong (alias) told The Epoch Times that a lack of business operations during the pandemic has put the garment industry in a very difficult situation. Many owners decided to walk out to demand their rents be waived. It was said that some owners even openly demanded, “State compensation!”

Chen Dong: There has been a demand for reducing up to half-a-year rent here in Zhuzhou, Hunan Province.

Chen Dong: There were many people petitioning this–thousands of them. We have 38 clothing markets here.

Chen Dong: Many people have posted videos of the petition in TikTok these days. Someone who petitioned told me certain TikTok accounts have been suspended for 7 to 14 days.

Reporter: How was the petition today? Was the petition resolved?

Chen Dong: Many local officials and market managers arrived at the market. They came to the shops and the factories to persuade us not to petition. They said they’ll reduce half a month of maintenance fee, and waive one month rent for those who signed a yearly contract. I didn’t go today because my wife asked me not to. There were many videos online this morning. It was said that 7 people were arrested. With petitions like this, I believe these people will be released sooner than later, as long as they don’t go to extremes like saying the slogan, “down with the CCP”. Otherwise, you could be jailed for half a year. I have friends who have experienced things like that.

Reporter: The bad market will drive more people to demand a rent reduction. What do you think will happen next?

Chen Dong: The pandemic doesn’t only affect the clothing industry. Construction projects have also stopped for quite a long time. Migrant workers haven’t returned. There’s no sign of them returning to work and their machines have been turned off. The pandemic has struck a huge blow to the economy.

Reporter: What’s the general public opinion on this?

Chen Dong: People are told to return to work, but in fact, many people don’t dare to do so because they’re afraid of contracting the virus. This is devastating to the economy. But, our government doesn’t even hand out $2,000 to help us. Here it is not like the US and Canada.

Report: It is said Wuhan has been locked down again.

Chen Dong: I am a Wuhan native, but a long time ago, I moved to Zhuzhou. As far as I know, initially, Zhuzhou City allowed Hubei residents, including Wuhan residents, to come to Zhuzhou starting from March 21, when Hubei’s lockdown was basically removed.

But the regulation changed two days ago on April 2. Anyone entering here from Wuhan and Hubei has to be in mandatory isolation for 14 days.

Many friends of mine have confirmed the quarantine. Many Wuhan residents who arrived on March 25 were isolated on April 2.

In fact, my relative and I spoke last night. There are confirmed cases in Wuhan, but they won’t get reported even though the number was low. These people were secretly isolated. If it gets reported, it will probably frighten people and further impact work and production. Many more people will be too scared to come out to work. This blow to the economy will be detrimental. I know for a fact that starting on April 2, people from Wuhan must go through mandatory isolation if they come to Zhuzhou.
