Recently, three U.S. Congressmen demanded six top U.S. universities including Harvard University and Yale University submit their records of donations from foreign governments, including China and other authoritarian countries, in the past five years. Experts believe that this action was taken to purge the CCP’s infiltration from within U.S. universities.

On August 3, three ranking members of the House Committee on Oversight and Freedom sent a letter to Harvard University, Yale University, University of Chicago, University of Delaware, New York University, and University of Pennsylvania, citing a U.S. law that requires them, no later than a week from now, to submit records of donations received from foreign governments, and contracts and agreements signed with foreign governments since January 2015. These foreign governments include China, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Russia.

According to the statistics presented in the letter, since 2015, the University of Chicago has declared 30 gifts or contracts totaling $23,059,862 from China, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Russia—all of which were anonymous. Section 117 of the Higher Education Act of 1965 requires colleges and universities to disclose contracts with, and gifts from, any foreign source of over $250,000 to the Department. The congressmen demand these six universities to be transparent about the sources of anonymous donations and gifts. For example, the universities need to disclose that whether the donations or gifts came from the Chinese government, the Communist Party of China or any affiliated organizations, any Chinese national, or any business primarily located in China.

Last month, Robert O’Brien, the U.S. National Security Advisor, indicated in his speech that in recent decades, U.S. policy toward China has been the greatest failure since the 1930s. Because the U.S. neglected to understand the true nature of the CCP’s ideology, it was allowed to infiltrate the entire world.

Lan Shu. a commentator on current affairs residing in the U.S. believes that it is very important for the U.S. government to understand the extent of foreign funds and donations in these universities. Only by clearing out past relationships with the CCP and its infiltration efforts, and the experts in the West who have been bribed by the CCP to speak on its behalf, can we avoid repeating the same mistakes in the policies toward China. He thinks that more universities will be investigated after these universities submit their records.

According to a U.S. government notice posted on Aug. 11, goods made in Hong Kong for export to the United States will need to be labelled as made in China after Sept. 25.

The move follows China’s imposition of a national security law on Hong Kong and a U.S. decision to end the former British colony’s special status under U.S. law, escalating bilateral tensions that were already rising over trade war tariffs and the handling of the coronavirus outbreak.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection notice said that the latest step will see Hong Kong companies subject to the same trade war tariffs levied on mainland Chinese exporters, should they make products subject to these duties.

It said that 45 days after its publication, goods “must be marked to indicate that their origin is ‘China.’”

The step was taken after the United States determined that Hong Kong is “no longer sufficiently autonomous to justify differential treatment in relation to China.”

In retaliation, China imposed sanctions on 11 U.S. citizens including lawmakers from Trump’s Republican Party on Aug. 10.
