Beijing had remained tight-lipped about the fate of Meng Hongwei, who is also China’s vice minister for public security, since his disappearance was disclosed by French officials on Friday.
The National Supervisory Commission, which handles corruption cases involving public servants, broke the official silence early Monday, saying in a one-line statement that Meng “is currently under investigation on suspicion of violating the law”.
US authorities are now allowed to shoot down personal drones if they deem them to be a threat, thanks to a new bill which has been signed by President Donald Trump. But critics say the law could be easily abused.
The FAA Reauthorization Act, signed by Trump on Friday, includes several points which are aimed at bringing US aviation rules up to speed with modern times – including new provisions to act against privately-owned drones.
In particular, section 1602 of the act outlines the “protection of certain facilities and assets from unmanned aircraft” and authorizes the detection, monitoring, and interception of drones “without prior consent” of the owner. Authorities have also been allowed to neutralize a potential threat using “reasonable force, if necessary, to disable, damage, or destroy” the UAV.

The sounds will be sonic booms and the lights will be from the guided re-entry of a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket scheduled to launch Sunday from Vandenberg Air Force Base at 7:21pm local time, carrying the SAOCOM 1A satellite into space, according to a press release.
Once the spacecraft deploys the satellite into its orbit, the rocket will return to its launch pad via a series of controlled burns that will direct its trajectory and hopefully allow it to return for a soft landing on the landing zone.
This will be the SpaceX’s first landing attempt on dry land at Vandenberg Air Force Base, and the West Coast, but not it’s the first launch.

Amid ceaseless accusations of Russian aggression, NATO will deploy 45,000 troops to Northern Europe in what will be the alliance’s largest “defensive” exercise since the end of the Cold War.
Fifty aircraft, 70 vessels, and around 10,000 land vehicles will take part in NATO’s Trident Juncture 18 drills, which are set to begin on October 25, with live field exercises continuing until November 7. Thirty-one allied countries and partners are slated to participate.
Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg described the massive military maneuvers as “defensive and transparent,” adding that all members of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), including Russia, had been invited to send observers.

Recently a number of videos, such as March For Our Lives, Swing Left, are having not only little effect, but in fact a negative effect; showing the major margin of difference between what the political establishment think works, and what really works.
To date, their project has been successful: seven papers have passed through peer review and have been published, including a 3000 word excerpt of Mein Kampf, rewritten in the language of Intersectionality theory and published in the Gender Studies journal Affilia.
Vice President Mike Pence accused China on Thursday of trying to undermine President Donald Trump as the administration deploys tough new rhetoric over Chinese trade, economic and foreign policies.
At the Hudson Institute think tank, Pence said China was using its power in “more proactive and coercive ways to interfere in the domestic policies and politics of the United States.”
“China wants a different American president,” Pence said.
Pence’s speech came a week after Trump accused China during a meeting of the U.N. Security Council of interfering in American elections to help his Democratic rivals.
Late last week, JPMorgan’s strategist John Normand announced that the largest US bank “adopted a new baseline that assumes a US-China endgame involving 25% US tariffs on all Chinese goods in 2019” because “the US and China will not resolve their differences this year and that the Administration will make good on its threats to escalate.” Such a full-blown trade war “could take $8 off consensus 2019 EPS projections of $179 and reduce next year’s EPS growth from 10% to 5% year-on-year” with JPMorgan predicting that this could “potentially end the US stock market rally even assuming a forward multiple of 17, unless some other offset materializes.”
JPMorgan wasn’t finished, however, and around 2pm on Wednesday, JPMorgan took its “new baseline” call further when it announced that as a result of its new baseline assumption for a “full-blown trade war” next year between the world’s two largest economies, the bank downgraded its bullish call on Chinese stocks. Echoing what it said previously in the context of US stocks, JPMorgan strategists including Pedro Martins Junior, Rajiv Batra and Sanaya Tavaria wrote that the trade conflict will only escalate as the U.S. maxes out tariffs on Chinese imports, the dollar strengthens and the yuan weakens further.
The British school’s student union has banned clapping, whooping and cheering at their events — suggesting the use of “jazz hands” instead.
“I think a lot of time, I’ve seen that clapping, whooping, talking over each other, loud noises, encourages an atmosphere that is not as respectful as it could be,” explained student union officer Sara Khan to the BBC.
