Disastrous floods continue to affect tens of millions of people in southern China. Hefei is one of the cities spearheading the so-called “sponge city” project—designed to have cities soak up water and release it later—but has become an “ocean city” during the flood.
It is said that since 2014, the Chine Communist Party has subsidized local constructions in sponge cities to solve the water logging problem, and it is expected to invest 40 billion yuan ($5.66 billion USD) in two years. However, a few years have passed and water-logging problems in various places are still serious, and the tens of billions of funds went down the drain. Hefei is one of the 31 major flood prevention cities in China that is still frequently affected by floods.
CCP mouthpiece Xinhua.net reported in May 2017, that the construction of sponge cities had been fully initiated in Anhui province. Based on its plan, the water-logging points in the city should have been mostly resolved by the end of 2017. By 2020, all cities and over 60% of county areas should meet the standards for sponge city construction, which will save Anhui residents from having the city look like an ocean city. But in late June 2020, heavy rain transformed Hefei from a sponge city to an ocean city.
Anhui residents are now living in floodwater and netizens said helplessly that the streets in Hefei can be used for boating.

Taiwan’s government expressed strong disapproval of the CCP’s imposition of a draconian national security law on Hong Kong, while stating its support of the people from Hong Kong.
Taiwan’s President Tsai Ing-Wen said during a press conference on June 30 that this proves that “One country, two systems” doesn’t work and indicated that Taiwan will assist the Hong Kong people through specific actions.
Meanwhile, Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council reminded Taiwanese people of the risks of visiting Hong Kong after the passing of the National Security Law.
Ms. Chen, a recent immigrant to Taiwan from Hong Kong, expressed deep concern over the passing of the National Security Law in an interview with Taiwanese media, saying that any expression of free speech, may now be a violation of the law.

U.S. media revealed a recently unsealed FBI document stating that Cui Tiankai, China’s ambassador to the U.S. and a Chinese diplomat in New York have been secretly helping to recruit scientists in the U.S. to work in China.
The FBI accused a Yale University scientist of violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act. This scientist secretly transferred research from a top U.S. academic institution to China, and is suspected of being part of the CCP’s “Thousand Talents Plan”—a plan implemented by the CCP to attract high-tech talent from overseas with generous remuneration packages.
The FBI alleged that the scientist in question has been traveling between the U.S. and China, attempting to recruit high-level talent in fields such as molecular genetics and stem cell research, to work at universities or research labs controlled by the CCP and to leak U.S. research results to the CCP. The FBI suspects that the CCP government officials ordered the scientist to recruit people in the United States.
This scientist was one of the opening keynote speakers at a recent science conference sponsored by the CCP in Boston, which an ambassador to the United States, a diplomat in New York, and other Chinese officials also attended, and where recruits were sought.

The CCP virus pandemic has not yet subsided, yet now there’s a new emergence of a deadly swine flu virus that can be transmitted to humans has recently emerged in China.
A study published on June 29 in the scientific journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences raised global alarms about a new swine flu virus discovered by Chinese researchers that has “all the essential hallmarks of a candidate pandemic virus.”
Anthony Fauci, director of the U.S. Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said on June 30 that the United States is keeping an eye on the virus that has the potential to cause a new wave of pandemics in the future.
Chinese researchers found the G4 virus can infect humans. Transmission of the virus from pig to human could “lead to severe infection and even death,” according to the study.
No human-to-human transmission cases have yet been found. However, researchers are concerned that the virus may further adapt to humans and eventually pose risks of human-to-human transmission.

As of June 30, the total number of people infected with the CCP virus outside mainland China approached 10.5 million. Some countries, where the epidemic had eased considerably, have recently experienced localized rebounds and had to revert to states of lockdown.
After the second wave of the epidemic broke out in Beijing, various agencies of the CCP have issued numerous documents related to the epidemic. One of the documents, issued by the Beijing Emergency Center on June 22, clearly states that the outbreak in Beijing is “very serious” and shall “remain at the highest level of investigation and control.” The document even asked for a delay in the return to the city of medical staff who are assisting Hubei’s epidemic control. This corroborates previous reports by local residents that Beijing’s epidemic is related to goods imported from Hubei.
Following the resurgence of Beijing’s epidemic, there have also been a number of confirmed cases reported in Hebei Province. Internal CCP documents obtained by The Epoch Times show that not only has Hebei Province rushed to launch large-scale virus testing, but it has also been asked to prepare to take on the task of carrying out nucleic acids tests for Beijing, indicating that the CCP is still preparing for a potential massive spread of the epidemic.
To help revive the travel industry, the European Union voted on and passed a “list of safe countries” on June 30th. Australia, Canada, Japan, Morocco and 14 other countries are on the list. Starting July 1, people from these 14 countries can travel to Europe without “necessary” reasons. But Russia, Brazil and the United States, where the epidemic remains severe, are not on the list of safe countries.
On June 30th, disease control measures were partially restored in some countries where closure had previously been lifted.
Leicester city in the UK has once again imposed strict lockdown measures. There has been a spike in confirmed cases in Leicester over the past week, and authorities are still trying to determine the exact cause of the sudden spike in cases in the area.
The German state of North Rhine-Westphalia announced on June 30 that the city of Guetersloh, home to a serious outbreak at a meatpacking plant, will remain under lockdown for another week to prevent resurgence of the outbreak.
Arizona has also re-closed entertainment venues such as bars, nightclubs, gyms, and movie theaters after a record number of new cases. On June 29th, California and Texas also set new records for their number of new cases. To date, at least 12 U.S. states have already suspended their reopening plans to prevent the epidemic from spreading further. However, because most of the cases in this epidemic rebound have been among young adults, the death rate in the United States continues to steadily decline, despite a significant increase in new cases.

Australia has been constantly receiving threats from the Chinese Communist Party after establishing a team to investigate the CCP virus.

Chinese international students in Europe have recently been informed by Beijing that a new rule which went into effect on June 23, requires students wanting to take a charter flight back to China must take a nucleic acid test within 120 hours before departure. This rule makes it difficult for Chinese students to return home.

Beijing is now the epicenter of a second COVID-19 outbreak in China.
The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) claimed that the new virus outbreak started in Beijing on June 11, with most confirmed cases being related to Xin Fa-Di Wholesale Market. The market was locked down by armed police on June 13 and all sales banned.
A vast quantity of fresh vegetables, fruits, and seafood have become rotten and had to be thrown away, causing huge business losses.
But on June 17, many households in the communities near the market are said to have no food at all.
Many videos of business owners throwing away their products have been circulating online.
Merchants at Xin Fa-Di Wholesale Market said they were not allowed to transfer the products after the market was closed, resulting in them losing a lot of money. Many merchants were even forced into quarantine.
One of the merchants at the market, Mr. Ai, said: “The loss is huge. Some products were moved here before the New Year and now all of them are rotten. The loss is more than 30,000 yuan (US$4,232) and we are so worried because living expenses have all gone up. Our lives have been extremely impacted. I am eating instant noodles now and I have to ask my relatives for help every day.”
Online official data reveals that Xin Fa-Di Wholesale Market occupies about 1,680 acres with 2,000 permanent vendors serving more than 4,000 households in the area. More than 18,000 tons of vegetables and 20,000 tons of fruits are sold daily, making it the largest vegetable and fruits market in Beijing.

“Snow in June” is a famous Chinese drama written during the Yuan Dynasty. It tells the story of a young lady who was wrongly convicted of crimes by a corrupt official and was sent to be executed. Before being executed, the young woman cried out to heaven to prove her innocence which brought about 3 unusual weather phenomenon to her hometown: bloody rain, snow in June, and a 3-year drought.
The metaphor “Snow in June” is a metaphor still used today among Chinese speakers when referring to a miscarriage of justice.
In some areas of China’s Xinjiang region, heavy snow began to fall in the evening of June 28. The following day, the ground was covered with 30 centimeters (1 foot) of snow.

On July 1, the National Security Law was implemented in Hong Kong causing Hongkongers to protest on the streets. Hong Kong police fired pepper spray, tear gas, water cannons, and made over 370 arrests.
On late June 30, after ceremonial votes by China’s rubber-stamp legislature, the National People’s Congress (NPC), the national security law went into effect. The law criminalizes individuals for any acts of subversion, secession, terrorism, and collusion with foreign forces, with maximum penalties of life imprisonment.
Large crowds swarmed the area of Causeway Bay where the march was due to start. But for the first time since mass protests began in June last year, protesters were being targeted for chanting slogans such as “Hong Kong Independence, the Only Way Out.” At around 2:20 p.m., Hong Kong police warned in a Facebook post that such slogans could “incite or abet” others to commit “secession” and thus violate the national security law.
According to police, a man was arrested for possessing a banner with words “Hong Kong Independence.” Then, a woman was arrested at around 3 p.m. for holding up a placard written with “Hong Kong Independence”. Her placard was attached by a British national flag and a U.S. flag.

Wang Ran, a postgraduate student studied and worked in the U.S. for 8 years before returning to China. In 2016, Wang agreed to her father’s request to return to her hometown and give up her U.S. citizenship. When she arrived, she was welcomed by the CCP authorities who summoned, detained, and tortured her and her brother while under police custody. Her parents were also detained by police and her father needed medical care.
On June 9, she detailed her family’s persecution under the CCP’s custody in an article titled, “Wang Ran Rescues Dad”. Four hours after posting her article, it was deleted by a local authority figure.
Wang Ran never thought something like this would happen to her and her family. She didn’t believe the criticisms by students from Taiwan and Hong Kong regarding the CCP’s abuses until it happened to her. She was under the impression that Taiwanese and Hong Kong students were being deceived.
According to a Chinese independent scholar, he states that “This problem exists among Chinese students studying abroad and many people who have been living overseas on a long-term basis. If they do not have a clear understanding of these issues, they will suffer the same tragedy. …”

Beijing is not under lockdown orders, but authorities have imposed strict measures requiring residents needing to leave Beijing to take a nucleic acid test within 7 days, showing a negative test result in order to board trains. Presently, the passenger flow in a station in Beijing has dropped significantly.
The authorities and the state-run news claim that the virus situation is under control, but some residents are unsure if this is true.

The 610 Office is a powerful and notorious agency that is similar to Nazi Germany’s Gestapo. It was established by the-then Party leader Jiang Zemin on July 10, 1999 to persecute and eradicate Falun Gong.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a traditional Chinese spiritual practice which consists of simple, slow-moving exercises and a meditation, with moral teachings based on the principles of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance. Under the leadership of the 610 Office, Falun Gong practitioners have been arbitrarily sentenced to labor camps, prison, or brainwashing centers.
There are about 1,000 610 Offices at all levels in provinces, cities, municipalities, autonomous regions, and neighborhoods in China. This formed an independent and rigorous operating system from central to local authority that controls all levels of public security, procuratorate, courts, justice system, military, police, foreign affairs, education, propaganda, and medical services.
With powers beyond those of the political and judicial authorities, the 610 Office can assess Party committees and governmental agencies of the same level, as well as observe and monitor court trials and control citizens, and carry out crimes like genocide against Falun Gong.
The office appears to have been renamed, with no references to its official or informal names appearing after 2019.
Despite the reform, the persecution continues to this day. This is just the tip of the iceberg.
