A resident of Hubei videotaped himself making a statement about his thoughts on China’s handling of the coronavirus epidemic. Chinese state media have been praising the Chinese communist regime for having “successfully” managed the epidemic, saying that the dictatorship handles calamities more efficiently than a free democratic system. This resident points out that it is just the opposite.
–
Hello everyone.
I’m an ordinary citizen from Yingcheng City, Hubei Province.
I have personally experienced the life-threatening perils and hardships brought upon us by this pandemic.
I believe I am qualified to talk about my thoughts regarding this pandemic.
During this epidemic, the ones who suffer are the people.
Those who take risks to treat those who are sick are also our brothers and sisters, and their children. Responding to the pandemic relies on us looking at the bigger picture, restraining ourselves, and taking responsibility.
It relies on the wealth formerly accumulated in the free market, and actual solutions.
Don’t mistake the arrogance and inherent weaknesses in authoritarian power as superiority to be applauded. What we need to do is reassess.

In the name of fighting the pandemic, now there’s also a so-called Epidemic Preventive Personnel who are volunteers wearing armbands appointed by the local authorities. They take people’s temperature, check mobile phone health codes, and decide who can and cannot commute within and outside the community. However, these local frontline personnel are known to abuse their power.
Urban Management officials are referred to as Chengguan. These are grassroots civil servants handling administrative issues in the city. Typically it’s known to be run by a collective of local thugs in management positions.
–
This video shows what it is like when one official meets another under the CCP ruling. Netizens commented this is typical when a rogue meets a thug.
Man in white protective gear: Are you cursing?
Chengguan: Yes, I am cursing. You can invite CCTV news to come to report our quarrel. I don’t care.
Woman in white protective gear: What’s your name? What’s your name?
Woman in white protective gear: Look at this. This is Chengguan. This is the Chengguan in Wuhan. They don’t let you check their temperature. They don’t let you scan their health codes. They don’t cooperate with the epidemic preventive personnel. They even attempt to beat you.
Woman in white protective gear: The police are here. Here come the police.
Woman in white protective gear: You don’t go. Don’t leave.

Family members of people who died from the CCP virus have been standing in long lines outside funeral homes in Wuhan to collect their relatives’ ashes since March 23. One man said the pandemic is a massacre instigated by the communist regime.
Mr. Ding’s mother passed away after falling ill with the CCP virus. Ding told The Epoch Times that it’s plain murder, and the regime’s tactics to shirk responsibility for this national disaster is unacceptable.
–
Reporter: What is the situation with regard to funerals now?
Mr. Ding: We were notified that we should prepare for the funeral. Simply put, we are forced to do it now and with a limited number of attendees and limited time [to prepare]. They said they would go over the process with us, but, in fact, I think it’s about surveillance. They are offering a promotional deal wherein all burials, whether someone died of natural causes or the epidemic, would be handled collectively by local authorities. But the limited number of attendees means that many relatives won’t be able to attend the service. There are eight siblings in my mother’s family. They are forcing us to bury her before the city’s lockdown is lifted. None of her siblings would be able to make it to her funeral.
Reporter: When did this start?
Mr. Ding: Since March 23.
Reporter: Who is forcing you to do it in a hurry? Your community staff?
Mr. Ding: The community office sent out the notice and said that everything will be arranged through them. The funeral home is not open to the public. So many people have died; you should have seen the online posts. Five-hundred urns have been released every day at one funeral home. There are eight funeral homes in Wuhan, their workloads should be similar.
Mr. Ding: In the online posts I noticed that there are many plainclothes police present. They stop you from filming. They won’t let you take out your cell phone. I saw this on the web. I am still thinking about it. Maybe I’ll do it before the Tomb-sweeping Day (April 5).
I was in a very heavy mood yesterday. There was a lot of talk on the web about the funerals by people who also lost family members and friends. We shared the same sorrow. I am a direct victim. I was in tears as I was reading the posts.
In her final moments, I kept telling my mom: “Don’t worry, I am your son. You gave me my life, and I am willing to give my life for you.”
She was afraid, fearing that I would get infected too. She was very lucid until the end.
I carried my mom to the hospital. During the final days I cried, hoping she’d come back, but she’s gone.

Chinese authorities have known about asymptomatic carriers of the CCP virus since early February, but they did not warn the public of the infection risks imposed by this group of people until recently. These asymptomatic people are able to transmit the virus to others. If they never have a diagnostic test, no one will know that they are virus carriers, as they look healthy.
The following voice message comes from a residential community building leaders’ WeChat group in China. She reminded everyone that 4 cases of asymptomatic infected people have been found, and told everyone that asymptomatic infected people are more dangerous.
–
We have found 4 asymptomatic coronavirus patients.
Please send this information to our resident group chats.
Do not go out if it is not absolutely necessary.
Don’t go out even if the weather is great. Stay at home.
You must wear a mask if you leave your home and wash your hands when you come back indoors.
Explain this to the elderly people in your family.
Some elderly people are stubborn. Convince them immediately.
Asymptomatic people, you don’t know how bad this is.
It means you don’t know who has the virus and who doesn’t.
He doesn’t know it himself even if he was infected.
He doesn’t have any symptoms.
As soon as possible, tell our residents to stay home.
Don’t go out. Wear a mask if you go out.
Wash your hands as soon as you get back home.
Let’s spread the word.
Tell the older people who often gather in our courtyard.
Tell them to go home and don’t gather anymore.
Tell the older people in your family: Don’t go to crowded places.
In the first two days, after the closure was lifted, residents strolled casually and went wherever they liked, to crowded public places, and to restaurants where they were eating face to face.
I tell you, such activities carry great health risks.
We have to be vigilant. We must pay attention to this.
The asymptomatic infected people are more dangerous.

A resident in Wuhan relayed a message she heard from a volunteer on WeChat. Volunteers provide help to neighbors, patients, and medical staff when needed and have access to more information than others.
——
Woman: Just now, my friend’s mother called to tell me that as a volunteer helping people in many different places and doing various chores, she just said Good-bye to a medical team who came to support Hubei from outside. They are now going back to their home city, and she spoke to them before they left.
She said the purpose of her call was to warn me not to go out. The risk outside is too severe. She said, first, avoid all public transportation including buses and the subway. This risk outside is more dangerous now than when all communities were under strict lockdown. She told me there are newly confirmed patients at hospitals every day. Some patients even carry two types of the CCP virus.
These doctors said we should not go out unless it’s necessary. When we have to go out, we must take more strict preventative measures than before.
She then asked the doctors, who are from Shanghai, why they are leaving Wuhan before the epidemic is wiped out. They said they came to offer help during the most challenging time when there was a severe shortage of medics in Wuhan. Now they need to return to Shanghai.
When asked if there is still a shortage of medics in Wuhan, they said medical staff in Wuhan are working long hours, and they are all burned out. It remains a daunting task for the medics in Wuhan.
They told her the virus is too ferocious. There are many symptomless carriers and many new confirmed cases. Presently, diagnosis, isolation, and treatment are all paid for by the patient himself. Previously, during the most challenging time, the authorities would pay the cost. Now every expense is on your own. Now people in financial difficulties don’t seek treatment or diagnosis, yet they hang around and spread the virus further. So the current situation is severe.
Let’s continue to stay at home and shop online.
She asked the doctors why the authorities have stopped reporting new cases when there are new cases of infection identified in hospitals every day. They told her that the authorities believe the current outbreak is under control, so they don’t report the real figures.
Precisely because of that, many people have let down their guard.
There are many asymptomatic carriers around. Some were identified when they returned to work and underwent the coronavirus test. The situation is terrifying.
My friend’s mother told me that her daughter always covers herself head-to-toe with a protective suit when she goes out, but she wishes she could wear two layers of gloves. She feels more fearful now than before.

The Qingming Festival is an important public holiday for families to commemorate their ancestors and deceased relatives. It falls on April 4 this year. A girl was seen crying in Wuhan on this day of mourning.
From the desolate cries of this Wuhan girl to the empty streets, do you know how many lives have been lost in this metropolis with a population of 11 million?
People from Wuhan, and even Hubei Province, are regarded as “viruses” by their fellow Chinese in the mainland. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has dug a grave for its own people.
Netizens left a message on Twitter: If you have been abandoned by the world before, have walked through purgatory and escaped from death, you can understand her emotion.

Mr. Zhang is one of the volunteers in Wuhan who provides help to residents, patients, and medical staff when needed. As he has come into contact with many people, he knows the overall situation in Wuhan.
–
Zhang: Now Hubei residents and Wuhan residents need to quarantine first if they go to other cities to work. Quarantine for 14 days and then take a nucleic acid test. The costs of isolation and the test are paid by the person. But now, who has the money to pay the quarantine fee?
Zhang: Lifting the closure on April 8th means that Wuhan residents can leave the city. You can go to all parts of the country; but the premise is that, for example, if you want to go to Shanghai, Guangzhou, or Shenzhen, you need to have an acceptance letter (from the destination city) to go there, otherwise you can’t leave.
Zhang: There is a criterion you must meet: You have to find a receiving company. That is, the other party must send you an acceptance letter so you can get a local official stamp. The letter should read: “ABC company in Guangzhou received Zhang Yi in Wuhan to come to work. He is an employee of our company,” etc. Otherwise you can’t leave your neighborhood. As far as I know, that is the situation.
Zhang: With regard to the actual situation in Wuhan, just yesterday someone died in their home. It happened just yesterday.
Journalist: So in fact, it is still very risky to lift the closure on April 8th.
Zhang: Maybe the final result will be the herd immunity (method) that Germany and the U.K. have proposed. Whoever is doomed to die will die, and whoever is destined to survive will survive.
Zhang: I heard that the Daily Mail in the U.K. also stated that the numbers reported by mainland China have to be multiplied by 40 to be accurate, because China’s population density is higher than any other country in the world.

On July 9, 2015, more than 200 people were arrested by the Communist regime during a nationwide crackdown on Chinese lawyers and human rights activists. It was known as the “709 Crackdown”. Wang Quanzhang was one of the “709 Crackdown” victims and imprisoned by the Communist regime. In Jinan, he was kept in isolation while guards stood to watch at his doorstep around the clock. Even a delivery guy “went missing” after a security guard took him to the police for investigation.
On April 5, to celebrate his freedom, his friend arranged a bouquet to be sent to him. However, even the delivery guy was implicated.
–
Video 1
Friend: It was OK when we had things arranged and delivered to the manager.
Floral Shop Owner: Right. Why did they take our workers away? I don’t understand.
Friend: I suggest that you call the police now. I will do the same.
Friend: (Speaking to the police hotline 110) The floral shop owner called me.
She said the delivery guy and his motorcycle were taken away by a security guard.
At first, the delivery guy said he couldn’t go in. I said if they don’t let you in, you can leave the flowers with the property manager. Let them deliver it to you. But then, the phone was cut off.
Soon after, the floral shop owner called. The floral shop owner is very worried too, that’s why I am calling to report this. I was worried that she wouldn’t call, so I volunteered to call. Please help.
Police Hotline Operator: Let me confirm with you. The delivery guy went to the apartment complex but he was taken away, so were the flowers, right?
Friend: Right. I’d like the flowers to be sent to a friend. I’d like the flowers delivered to him, you know, because of the pandemic. It’s OK if it’s not delivered to him in person. But why would they arrest the delivery guy? It’s already very difficult for people to return to work during this time.
Police Hotline Operator: Alright, keep your phone available so that we can contact you later.
Video 2
Li Heping is another human rights lawyer who was imprisoned during the crackdown on human rights advocates in 2015. He was released in May 2017. On the day Wang Quanzhang was released, Li called him and found out that surveillance guards were standing outside Wang’s apartment.
Wang Quanzhang: Hello
Li Heping: Quanzhang
Wang Quanzhang: Hey, Heping.
Li Heping: Do you recognize my voice?
Li Heping: The sound quality is good. No problem.
Li Heping: Just run to Beijing.
Li Heping’s Wife: He should’ve come home. There’s no need for him to be quarantined for 14 days. It’s nonsense.
Li Heping: How about renting a car and coming to Beijing?
Wang Quanzhang: (Sigh) There’s no way. There are guards outside.
Li Heping: Someone is there to watch you?
Wang Quanzhang: Yes.
Li Heping: Outside the apartment or outside your door?
Wang Quanzhang: By the corridor entrance.
Li Heping: There are people by the entrance?
Wang Quanzhang: Yes, yes.
Video 3
Wang Quanzhang was arrested when his son was 2 years old. For nearly 5 years, his wife, Li Wenzu, has hoped for the day their family could reunite again. But there’s no end in sight.
Video 4
Li Wenzu, the wife of attorney Wang Quanzhang posted on Twitter
On May 24, 2016, while eating, Wang Quanzhang’s son missed his father so much he stopped to pray for him to come home.
Wang Quanzhang’s son:
Jesus, my Lord,
Please bring peace to him.
Let him come home quickly.
Jesus my Lord please have him come home with joy.
Amen
Dear God, I love you.

Since the lockdown was removed, the regime has relied on a “green” health code as a pass for people to move freely in China. However, riots exploded in China due to the mistrust in the measure.
Introduction: Mr. Gao is a citizen of Hubei. He explains his grave concerns about the effectiveness of the green health code system to The Epoch Times.
–
Mr. Gao: You log on every day through the phone during the 14 days of isolation. It’s like punching a time card. Fourteen days later, the code is green. When your surrounding area is free from any new infections, after 14 consecutive days, it’s a pass. No one near you has the virus, and your code will be green. With the green code, it’s a pass.
Reporter: Is the health code on the cell phone a pass to travel inside China?
Mr. Gao: Yes, it is.
Reporter: A man went back to Gansu with a green health code from Wuhan but tested positive for the CCP virus. What do you think of that?
Mr. Gao: Well, this punching card system on cell phones is just a formality. It’s not a laboratory test. It only tells you that this person has been checking in during the 14-day isolation. It does not say anything about those who were infected in your area. This code does not represent the rapid test. It serves as a roll call. You’ll need a swab test and a CT scan to confirm the infection. The code does not serve any purpose of confirmation.
Reporter: It’s a fact that many places have adopted this health code system as a pass for travel?
Mr. Gao: It’s been my concern. Many media and public officials talked about the turning point when the infection rate starts to come down. I have commented on this before. To get to the turning point, where the pandemic is contained is almost impossible. First, there’s no effective medicine. Second, there are not sufficient medical resources. Third, how much do we know about the latent phase and the suspect cases? In China, we don’t know anything about the latent phase of the infection. This health code system has no binding capacity. It’s just a routine roll call. I think this imposes a huge danger because cases are showing that the latent phase is getting longer. It’s not only 14 days; it’s tens of days, and even up to 40 days. It has become a hidden danger.
Reporter: What the authority does is very irresponsible. Why is that?
Mr. Gao: It has always been irresponsible. Always—including concealing the facts. To justify its political correctness, they want everyone back at work; they want to keep up the economy. There’s no sense of right and wrong. There’s no concern for the public interest. They won’t do anything to contain the pandemic unless it gets serious again. I have kept on stressing—No School—until the pandemic is over. But look—many schools reopened. They don’t care about the lives and well being of the people.
Reporter: Are you worried about another outbreak?
Mr. Gao: Another outbreak is unavoidable. Patients in the latent phase. Those released from makeshift hospitals. Those who were not cured. Those so-called cured but who turned positive again. They are all risk factors. The recurrence of the outbreak is very likely. Many people around this area have gone out. Rarely anyone still stays at home like me. I was just thinking of that. I might need to work, and I should do a CT scan before I go out.
Reporter: You will do the CT scan. But many others won’t. You are still at risk of being infected.
Mr. Gao: It’s really up to a personal understanding of the prevention. We hold our lives in our hands. We need to be responsible for ourselves. The safest place is where preventive measures are in place. That’s how to gain a sense of protection. My landlord, for instance, does not wear a mask when he goes out, because the lockdown has been lifted. But we were the epicenter. That is a considerable risk. In Shenzhen, a friend of mine said his company hands out two N95 masks a day. There’s a temperature check, reports of the itinerary if you go out, a policy of frequent hand washing, and spacing in the dining center. That’s a good prevention measure. In our Huanggang District, there’s no sense of prevention. With the lockdown lifted, people are happy that life is back to normal. People think they have survived and feel relaxed. But what we need is to enhance the sense of intervention as this is the most critical point. It’s dangerous now.

A small workshop is producing masks for coronavirus protection, but it is not equipped with any sterilization facilities at all.
A Chinese vendor bought 350,000 masks from a factory in Henan Province. When she checked the quality of these masks, she found many problems. There was even a mask with a dead fly on it.
–
Woman a in the background:
“I ordered a large batch of masks and yesterday I opened a box to check them. See, this one, zoom in for you to see what it is. So disgusting! It is the most disgusting mask of them all. Then, what is this? Again, zoom in. (0:26) Another one. It was I who ripped it apart, because there is a big black stain here, so I ripped it open to check what’s inside. Then all this stack, the ear loops are all black. And this one, it’s even more obvious. The surface is crumpled. It’s dirtier than any used disposable masks!
Here comes the highlight! Wow, take a look! These are the products from your factory. Your products… There is even a piece half of the regular size! Wait, there are several half-sized pieces. And this one, the sewing thread has come out. Several have the same problem. The ear loop on this one is too long. Several have the same problem. The ear loop on this one is too long. ”
Tech Planet, a science and technology media outlet, recently interviewed a mask exporter Chen Guohua (pseudonym). Chen said 60% of mask factories in China don’t have sterile workshops. He has personally visited some factories. They are very dusty, and the workers don’t wear masks or gloves when making and packaging the gloves.
“Who would dare to wear such masks if you get to see these?”Chen asked.

On the first day of having the lockdown lifted in Wuhan, new CCP virus cases appeared in the Hanhua community in Wuhan. The community was placed under lockdown again.
–
Our community Hanhua has been locked down already. You can only enter but not exit. We were notified by higher officials.
Guard: Go back home! No one is allowed to leave. Only those who are here to pick up the deliveries can come over and pick up the packages.
–
On the same day, someone suddenly fell on the street.
At around 3:30 PM on April 8th, while the train station staff were patrolling near the Cyberport on Dazhi Road, a man was found lying unconscious on the street.
The videographer said,
“Stay away from Dazhi Road. Someone suddenly fell. Just fell here.”
“Oh my God, he fell and didn’t move.”
The authorities later issued a statement claiming that the man was “passed out drunk”, but the outside world remains skeptical.

The Yellow Mountains (Huangshan) in Anhui Province, one of China’s most spectacular areas of natural scenery, offered free entry to all residents in Anhui Province. Starting April 1, lines began forming as early as 4 a.m. Soon after the opening of the main gates, scenic spots were full of visitors. On April 4, Huangshan Scenic Area reached its limit of 20,000 tourists,
The following video shows that on April 1, the first day of free entry, many people were already queuing at 4 a.m. The trails going up the mountain were packed, and many were not wearing masks, sparking fears of another viral outbreak.
–
My God! Look at the sea of people in Huangshan, it’s too crowded to move. Don’t come to Huangshan today. With these long lines, you won’t be able to get in.
–
This is the situation in Huangshan when visitors haven’t even started to climb the mountain yet. We are still waiting for shuttles. It’s just horrible.
–
Friends from Anhui Province, please don’t come to Huangshan, you have to wait a long time for the shuttles, don’t come! Look at how many people there are.
–
All you get to see in this footage is people’s heads. No sightseeing but looking at people’s heads if you are here.
–
A twitter user named Dong Brother originally wanted to go to Huangshan but canceled his trip because of the crowds. He tweeted, “Tickets for Huangshan are usually too expensive—230 yuan per person ($32). Now many people are going there because it’s free. See how they suffer! (Remember that) the epidemic is not over yet!”
At the same time, Chinese authorities banned tomb sweeping—visit cemetery to pay respect to the deceased, on the Tomb Sweeping Festival this year, which was April 4, citing the excuse of coronavirus control.
Anhui netizen Mr. Shi commented on this, saying: “Thousands of people from Anhui are visiting the mountains during such a dangerous period. Many people are outraged and complaining about not being allowed to go to the cemetery to worship the dead. Is visiting the dead more dangerous than allowing so many people to gather here?”
Huangshan is located in Huangshan City, south of Anhui Province. It is the only mountain scenery among China’s top ten scenic spots.

Residents of Wuhan, the epicenter of the CCP virus, were allowed to leave their residential buildings and use public transportation on March 23 after two months of strict lockdown. However, locals soon discovered they are still at high risk of being infected with the virus.
–
Man: All passengers on the bus were transferred to this ambulance and are now being taken away.
Explanation: It’s likely that one of the passengers was found to have developed a fever.
A similar incident happened on another bus.
Man: They found a person suspected to be infected with the virus on the bus. All passengers on the bus will have to be quarantined. There is a patient who has a fever. Everyone has to get off the bus.
Man: Which bus is it? I mean, which bus number? Got it. It is bus No. 351.
Man: Didn’t you tell us that we are all fine now? Why are you locking our community again?
Staff: We found someone with a “red” health barcode (confirmed or suspected patients) who…
Man: Ah?
Staff: Someone with a “red” health barcode just ran away.
Man: Ran away? So should we be locked indoors again?
Man: We are forbidden to enter or leave now. We are finished, guys!
Man: Another round of chaos. Damn it!
Chinese authorities have started using health barcodes that are classified into three different colors to identify a person’s health risk level. Red indicates a person who is confirmed or suspected to be infected with the virus. Yellow indicates a person who has come into contact with a confirmed or suspected patient. Green indicates a person who has a low risk of having any contact with a confirmed or suspected patient.

The CCP virus ravaged mainland China and brought huge losses to the Chinese economy. Merchants around the country continued to step out to demand rent reductions.
On the morning of March 31st, the merchants of Zhuzhou Clothing Wholesale Market gathered at the entrance of the mall, holding banners while shouting “Rent reduction for half a year!” After receiving no response, hundreds of merchants gathered at the gate of the municipal administration again in the afternoon but were later driven away by police.

“The police are beating people, the police are beating people!”
“Fight if they want, but they can’t beat us, we have more people.”

Mr. Guo, a citizen of Zhuzhou:
“Because of this epidemic, my business was closed down. It just recently reopened, but the demand is very weak. Therefore, my business is not doing well and I’m losing money. They asked the market manager for a half year rent reduction but they refused. Then they came to the gate of the municipal government to voice their demands. ”
The anonymous owner of a clothing store in Songbei Market in Zhujiang: “They have the final say about everything in the market. It is a very very small place. (Rent) is more than 100,000 to 200,000 yuan a year. Our business was not very good. We were definitely affected by the epidemic, so we must safeguard our rights. If they reduce the rent, we’ll stop causing a commotion.“
According to local media reports, many shopping malls in Zhuzhou have reduced rent for merchants, some for one month, and some for half a month.
Ms. Xiao, the owner of a clothing store in Songbei Market, said that even if the rent is reduced, one or two months is not enough, so she decided to quit, transferring the stall to someone else. Ms. Xiao, the owner of a Songbei market clothing store, said: “It’s useless, I quit.”
Various parts of China resumed work in February. Merchants in various places continue to demand rent reductions. In early March, merchants at Shenzhen and Guangzhou clothing wholesales held large-scale protests on the streets for rent reductions. Since then, similar petitions have continued.

A Wuhan resident whose father died from the CCP virus formed a WeChat group with other families in similar situations. The group was named “Remembering those lost to the epidemic” and participants shared what happened to their families and tried to comfort each other. Police then came to summon the organizer to the police station.
–
Police 1: I am not saying that you are wrong or whatnot. We are here to find out what your purpose is (in forming this group).
Man: No hidden agenda. It’s just that families like ours are too pitiable.
Police 1: We are here to help you resolve any issues you may have. I didn’t mean to…
Woman: If you really wish to help us resolve any issues…
Man: It was like this. When my dad fell ill, we begged our community office multiple times, asking them to arrange a hospital so my dad can be hospitalized.
Police 2: Then come with us to our police station and we will register your case.
Police 1: I didn’t mean to say you were wrong…
Man: All right. When my father was dying, he couldn’t accept it at all as he really could have been saved.
