Daily Rabbit Hole #188 | 44 Democrats Exempted Awans From Background Checks
As the Russian “hacking” episode continues to mire the Trump administration in nebulous innuendo and daily claims of collusion, Luke Rosiak of the Daily Caller reminds us that House Democrats participated in an actual data breach conducted by Pakistani-nationals who were given access to highly sensitive intelligence as part of their duties providing IT support to members of Congress – and in particular, Reps. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) and Gregory Meeks (D-NY).

One of the Biggest Card Heists in History: Hackers Steal Records of 5mn People
In what has been described as one of the biggest card heists in history, a hacker group claims it obtained payment details relating to five million customers of Saks Fifth Avenue and Lord&Taylor stores, located mostly in the US.
The breach was first discovered by cybersecurity firm, Gemini Advisory, and was later confirmed by Hudson’s Bay Company – one of Canada’s largest retail groups with a specific focus on the luxury market. The company owns Saks Fifth Avenue, Saks Off 5th and Lord&Taylor stores, which were identified by Gemini as victims of the hack.

In Unprecedented Move, China Plans To Pay For Oil Imports With Yuan Instead Of Dollars
Just days after Beijing officially launched Yuan-denominated crude oil futures (with a bang, as shown in the chart below, surpassing Brent trading volume) which are expected to quickly become the third global price benchmark along Brent and WTI, China took the next major step in the challenging the Dollar’s supremacy as global reserve currency (and internationalizing the Yuan) when on Thursday Reuters reported that China took the first steps to paying for crude oil imports in its own currency instead of the US Dollars.

Mt Etna’s Sliding Toward Sea, ‘Catastrophic’ Tsunamis & Landslides on Horizon
Mount Etna is slowly sliding into the Mediterranean Sea, according to the first study which confirms the entire active volcano is shifting and could trigger catastrophic landslides and devastating tsunamis.
Scientists have confirmed for the first time that the entire volcano is moving in an east-south-east direction towards the town of Giarre, at an average rate of 14mm (.55 inches) a year. That’s according to the study published in the Bulletin of Volcanology.

Daily Rabbit Hole #136 | Hillary Clinton paid $7K less than Snooki, for speech
Earlier today, NJ Advance Media reported that Hillary Clinton was being paid $25,000 to speak at Rutgers University, for a speech about “politics, American democracy and her role in shaping women’s political history.” To some, this sounds like a nice chunk of change, especially considering that Clinton probably talks for free about “politics, American democracy and her role in shaping women’s political history” every five minutes.
But to those who are familiar with the celebrity speaking circuit, it’s basically bubkes. Chump change. A drop in the DNC bucket.

US Tourists Will Be Required to Turn Over Past 5 Years of Social Media History
People seeking a US visa may soon be required to disclose their social media information so that five years’ worth of their online footprint can be scrutinized. It was previously reserved for people from terrorism-affected states.
Diplomats and travelers facing extreme medical situations are to be exempt from the new, more rigorous vetting procedure proposed by the US State Department. All others, including immigrants and standard visitors, will have to disclose their accounts on a list of social media use in the past five years, as well as telephone numbers and email accounts used in the same period. Additional information may be required by the US government. Even the people with exemptions could be required to provide their social media info on some occasions.

Hundreds Evacuated, Thousands Of Animals Wiped Out After Oil Spill In Colombia
An estimated 2,400 animals have been killed while hundreds of residents were evacuated following a major oil spill in rural Colombia. The government is preparing sanctions against the oil well operator Ecopetrol for negligence.
Ecopetrol’s Lisama 158 well began leaking on March 3 but has yet to be fully contained. The situation is so bad that a specialist 60-ton “Snubbing Unit” was sent from Houston in the US to help engineers to permanently seal the well. The Snubbing Unit team was specifically hired to determine the exact cause of the leak, according to Edgar Mora, head of the department for development and production at Ecopetrol.

There’s something strange about NXIVM
Devotees of the upstate self-help organization pay thousands of dollars for seminars, wear colored sashes denoting their “rank,” spout Scientology-like jargon, and literally bow before leader Keith Raniere — whom they call “The Vanguard.”
Nxivm (pronounced “Nexium”) has deep pockets, outposts around the world, and draws celebrity attendees, including British billionaire Richard Branson and actresses Allison Mack, Kristin Kreuk and Nicki Clyne, and even hosted the Dalai Lama at an event in 2009.
But behind the scenes, Raniere has been blackmailing his female followers into becoming sex slaves branded with his initials, while other women in the group were made to wear fake cow udders on their bare breasts in acts of ritual humiliation, federal prosecutors allege.
