On Tuesday, September 5th, 2017, the board of MGM Resorts International decided to approve a $1 billion share repurchase program. At $17.7 billion today, the program represented a significant portion of its current market cap. Whoa! Soros Had A $42 Million Short Open On MGM

On Tuesday, September 5th, 2017, the board of MGM Resorts International decided to approve a $1 billion share repurchase program. At $17.7 billion today, the program represented a significant portion of its current market cap. By the end of the week, MGMโs CEO, James Murren, had coolly divested himself of 80% of the shares he owned in his company. The divestment came just days before the ex-dividend date on September 8th, 2017.
The sales were originally disclosed in a document filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Murren had previously divested 57,269 shares on July 31st and August 9th, 2017.
Itโs currently unclear why Murren chose to sell when he did. To date, MGMโs stock has not experienced a significant decline in value due to the repurchasing program. It could be interpreted to run against the companyโs interests for the CEO to convey a sense of urgency in the selling of his shares by disposing of them immediately after the commencement of his companyโs share repurchase program. Itโs also strange that the CEO of a company would sell more than half of their stake (let alone 80%) in the company that they represented.
Mr. Murren and his fellow board members were not the only speculators who were bearish on MGMโs prospects. Billionaire investor George Soros also bought $42 million worth of puts on the company, according to SEC filings from mid August.

New Study Says Giant Atlantic Wind Farm Could Power Entire World
A new research paper boldly suggests that one monumental floating wind farm in the north Atlantic could theoretically power our entire civilization.
“In the winter, North Atlantic wind farms could provide sufficient energy to meet all of civilization’s current needs,” claims the report, produced by atmospheric scientist Anna Possner and climatologist Ken Caldiera, published Monday in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
“Even in the relative calm of summer, the upper geophysical limit on sustained wind power in the North Atlantic alone could be sufficient to supply all of Europeโs electricity,โ the report reads.

About 90 Percent of Gulf Of Mexico Oil Production Shuts Down Due to Nate
Oil production slowed to a trickle in the Gulf of Mexico this weekend as energy companies turned off the taps and evacuated workers in preparation for Hurricane Nate.
More than 92 percent of crude output was offline in the nation’s offshore production hub as of Sunday morning, according to the U.S. Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement. Energy companies also “shut in” nearly 78 percent of natural gas production, the bureau estimated, based on reports from companies.
The storm developed into a hurricane on Friday night and strengthened as it passed through the central Gulf of Mexico, before making landfall near the mouth of the Mississippi River. U.S. producers shut down about 300 of the 737 offshore platforms in the Gulf of Mexico to avoid potential damage.

Hurricane Nate Prompts States of Emergency In US Southeast, Evacuation In New Orleans
No longer a tropical storm, Hurricane Nate reached Category 1 status before midnight Friday, as it nears landfall in the Southeast US. Four states along the northern Gulf Coast have already declared states of emergency.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) has issued a hurricane warning on the Gulf Coast from Grand Isle, Louisiana, to the Alabama-Florida border.
