Researchers have demonstrated that a laser can transmit an audible message to a person without any type of receiver equipment.
In The Optical Society (OSA) journal Optics Letters, researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s Lincoln Laboratory report using two different laser-based methods to transmit various tones, music and recorded speech at a conversational volume.

The US State Department has raised its travel advisory warning for Venezuela to “do not travel,” citing civil unrest. The move comes after the White House stepped up efforts to remove President Nicolas Maduro from power last week.
The department issued the Level 4 red warning on Tuesday afternoon, warning Americans to avoid the country due to “crime, civil unrest, poor health infrastructure, and arbitrary arrest and detention” of US citizens.

A Russian Su-27 fighter jet has warned off a US P-8а Poseidon reconnaissance plane, which was approaching the Russian maritime border in the Baltic Sea, the Defense Ministry said.
The radars picked up the approaching target over the neutral waters in the Baltics and a Su-27 fighter jet was scrambled to intercept it.

The US Federal Aviation Administration stopped flights to New York’s LaGuardia Airport for an hour amid air traffic control staff shortages. The issue arose from the ongoing government shutdown.
