Chinese mask factories are closing down. Many netizens and business owners revealed the reasons: rapid expansion, a huge increase in prices of machinery and raw materials, and the inability to export masks after international requirements became stricter. One netizen commented: “Mask factories closed down, Chinese-made masks are worth less than papers, this is the epitome of the bankruptcy of Chinese mask diplomacy!”
On May 2, a mask factory closed down in Anqing City in Anhui province and a video of the unmarketable masks piling up in the yard has been circulating online. In fact, as early as April 25, netizens exposed that the mask factories in Shenzhen are now closed too.
Anqing City is a base of the medical masks industry. Netizens exposed that a while ago, hundreds of mask factories were established overnight in Tongcheng County of Anqing. So far, more than a thousand mask factories stopped their operations.
An employee of a mask factory, Mr. Li, indicated that after the prices of machinery and raw materials increased and the exporting of masks failed due to strict requirements from the international community on quality, many mask factories have closed down.
“The nonwoven fabric, used as the middle layer, now costs more than $700,000 yuan ($99,110 USD) per ton. The cost of manufacturing is high, so they are unable to continue producing.”
A video dated April 30 on YouTube shows that a mask factory closed down and the employee went to find jobs at another mask factory without success. Many mask factories have stopped hiring.

“Boss, are you hiring? No? Not hiring. Hmm, many factories stopped their production.”
“Boss, do you need anybody here? Not hiring.”
“It is wrong that everybody went straight ahead to produce facial masks. The real medical facial masks need to be produced in a sterile environment and it is totally irresponsible to sell masks that are produced in regular workshops or in garages. Therefore, some masks are not selling and the production stopped, as a result, factories closed down.”
At first, China fooled the world with its masks, now that the U.S. became self-sufficient and Taiwan was able to export masks, the pandemic has eased! China’s massive production capacity was completely abandoned! The price of greed!”

On top of the pandemic, Heilongjiang is taking another catastrophic hit. Since April, farmlands in Sanjiang Plain have suffered from floods caused by heavy snow. Thousands of acres of farmlands are ruined. The northern grain base of China is suffering tremendous losses.

“This is the junction of the two farmlands encircled before the flood. This one was for corn, and the one in the northward section was for rice. Take a look. It’s in April, the soybeans are gone. It was already a loss last year. The entire area here, thousands of acres, is ruined. So is the rice, soybeans, and corn.”
The Sanjiang Plain covers 23 counties in Heilongjiang Province, located in China’s northeast region. The area has extensive wetlands known as the Northern Grain Base. It has an annual output of 7 billion kilograms. The first virus epicenter in Hubei is known as one of the central grain bases. It missed its early spring planting due to the pandemic. Unfortunately, the outbreak is hitting Heilongjiang, where the northern grain base is situated.

Continuing news from China. Huang Qi, the founder of the human rights news website “64 Tianwang,” was sentenced to 12 years in prison last year.
Currently, his 87-year-old mother is terminally ill. She hopes to see her son at least one more time before she passes away.
Despite the risk, hundreds of mainland Chinese citizens have joined a petition for authorities to release Huang Qi so that mother and child can see each other one last time.
On April 30, Huang Qi’s mother, Pu Wenqing, requested through telephone that authorities investigate the truth about the case against Huang Qi and give him a fair trial.
Pu Wenqing also posted a statement online, “The Last Confession of Huang Qi’s Mother,” stating that she is suffering from a variety of illnesses and cancer has spread throughout her body. Her greatest hope has always been to see her son again in this lifetime, but she knows the chances are slim.
She wrote, “The more important thing is that, after I leave, I hope you guys will take good care of my son. My son is wronged. He was wrongly convicted by the Mianyang District Court. Overturn the judgment!”
Ever since her son was imprisoned in 2016, Pu Wenqing, despite illness, has traveled around to advocate for her son’s release and tried numerous methods to see him, all in vain. Even phone calls between the two are banned.
Starting April 29, some people initiated a joint signing on WeChat, urging authorities to release Huang Qi and allow mother and son to meet. Hu Guiqin, a co-signer, said that by that afternoon, 110 people had already signed the petition.
Co-signer, Ran Chongbi, wrote, “Huang Qi has helped a lot of people. He’s not anti-Party or anti-China. He just wants the best for the country and for society. He wants safety for all people. However, the government does not act. The government does not want to solve the problems brought up by petitioners. Huang Qi thinks only of the country and wants society to be harmonious. He demanded that some problems should be solved. As a result, the government seeks to control him.”
Ms. He, an activist from Chongqing, said that many people have received help from Huang Qi. Huang Qi spoke for those who did not have a voice before he went to prison. She hopes that the international media will also help Huang Qi and his mother in their appeal.
Petitioner said, “Huang Qi’s mother is in poor health. As a mother, I hope she is able to see her son before death. This is also the law. The law allows for visitation rights. As an ordinary person seeing this situation, I’m very sympathetic to their plight and hope that the elderly mother will get her wish.”
Ms. He says that Huang Qi’s mother has been under surveillance and is not able to go about freely. Now, her cancer has spread, but she is still waiting for admission to the hospital. Ms. He is worried that Huang Qi’s mother will not live long enough to be hospitalized.
The tragedy that has befallen Huang Qi and his mother has garnered mamy people’s attention. Lawyers in mainland China have urged authorities to arrange a meeting between mother and child based on humanitarian concerns, and based on Huang Qi’s physical condition, consider carrying out his sentence outside of prison.
Huang Qi founded the “64 Tianwang” website in 1999 to expose corruption and human rights violations, as well as discuss other sensitive issues occurring among Chinese Communist Party officials.
As a result, he was brutally persecuted and sentenced twice to 8 years in prison. In 2016, Huang Qi was arrested again. In July 2019, he was charged with “deliberately leaking state secrets” and sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Hong Kong’s sitting-Chairman of the pro-democracy Civic Party, Senior Counsel member Alan Leong Kah-kit, told The Epoch Times in an exclusive interview how the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) exploited the pandemic situation to encroach further on Hong Kong’s democracy and freedom.
Leong called on the people of the world to view Hong Kong as an example and stand up to the CCP.
Leong said, “the CCP is exploiting the situation to do bad things on Hong Kong people, thinking that the world will be too busy and otherwise engaged with fighting the CCP virus that they can not spare the attention to keep an eye on Hong Kong.”
Leong said that the CCP wants to further infringe Hong Kong’s democracy and freedom in four ways:
1. Making National Security Laws (Hong Kong’s Basic Law Article 23) as soon as possible.
2. Use the accusation of “sedition” to arrest dissidents.
3. Cancelling or postponing the September Legislative Council elections.
4. Exploit the recent incident of RTHK (Radio Television Hong Kong) reporter Yvonne Tong’s question about Taiwan membership to WHO advisor Bruce Aylward to crack down on this public broadcaster.
Leong said, “Another thing is that they started arresting people for sedition, which is something that we lawyers see to be a crime that aims at silencing dissidents and the dissents.”
Hong Kongers have postponed the National Security Laws (Hong Kong’s Basic Law Article 23) for 18 years now. Pro-democracy advocates did very well in November’s District Council Elections and have defended their rights.
Leong said, “Everybody thought that probably the CCP and the Hong Kong administration would cancel that election, the District Council elections, but it turns out that the pro-democracy side won a landslide victory. We won 388 seats out of a total 420 and we are now controlling 17 out of 18 District Council’s.”
Leong said what is common between Hong Kong and Taiwan is that “we did not trust the WHO, we did not trust the CCP for the information that they provided,” so the epidemic was kept under control.
Leong said: “I think it is this mentality and not trusting the CCP or the WHO that put us in our present situation.”
Leong said, “Today’s Hong Kong will become a free democracy tomorrow, and therefore if you are thinking that you are just helping Hong Kong that is not quite accurate, because you are at the same time helping yourselves.”
Leong calls for international attention to Hong Kong as it is at the forefront of the battle between the CCP’s autocracy and the democratic values of the free world.
Leong: “If Hong Kong falls as a result of the world no longer paying enough attention to us during this time of the virus attack, it may produce similar results in other countries.”
Leong is a long-time proponent of Hong Kong democracy and rule of law. The former head of the Hong Kong Bar Association also served on the Hong Kong Legislative Council for 12 years. In 2014, he helped lead the Umbrella Movement and currently serves as Chairman of the pro-democracy Civic Party.

U.S. State Department Spokesperson, Morgan Ortagus, expressed during a Bill Hemmer Reports Fox News interview on April 29, that currently no credible scientists, doctors, or investigators have yet entered the Wuhan lab or the seafood market to investigate the origins of the virus. Ortagus called for transparency and openness from the CCP to the international community.
“If they want to be transparent, they can simply start by giving us the correct data, and by opening up the country not just to the United States, but to the world, to credible doctors from around the world.”
Ortagus also reprimanded CCP officials for spreading disinformation.
“We get a lot of disinformation Bill, that you see from Chinese communist party officials.”
During a recent Voice of America interview, Ortagus said that the CCP’s ban on Twitter abridged the Chinese people’s freedom of speech. Zhao Lijian and other CCP officials, meanwhile, use Twitter to spread false information from the regime.
“The disinformation that we were seeing from party (CCP) officials were so egregious, we really felt the need to call it out.”
In an April 30 post on Twitter, Ortagus further emphasized Secretary Pompeo’s warning the previous day to the CCP. Pompeo tweeted that the United States has been seeking information about the origins of COVID-19, and called on the CCP to be transparent and cooperative.

Since the global CCP virus outbreak, “mask gifting” has become a way to express care among Chinese families. It is also a way to show support to healthcare workers.
In this pandemic, through donating masks, a Chinese lady who recently came to the U.S. was able to realize the evil nature of the CCP.
Xu Nuo from China had just arrived in the U.S. three months ago. She donated 6,000 medical masks to a hospital in Los Angeles. She hopes the public can understand that the Chinese are also victims of the CCP virus and that it was the CCP who caused this global pandemic.
Xu Nuo, a former Chinese company employee from mainland China said:
“If the Chinese government and the CCP had told the world the danger of this virus and cautioned its spread, I believe not so many innocent people would have lost their lives. This whole time, the Chinese government and the CCP have done such wrong, they are the cause of many people to lose their lives, I am very angry.”
Xu Nuo said at the beginning of this epidemic, she once mailed masks to her family as well as a few Bibles in the package. Her family was harassed by the CCP because of this.
Xu Nuo: “(The Chinese police) took my family to the station thinking I am part of an anti-China religious group and my family would be incited by me to be anti-China too. They took my father and put him in detention in a very poor isolated environment and we had to pay for all of it ourselves. My family are very elderly, this whole process caused him a lot of harm physically and mentally.”
Xu Nuo said the CCP slaughtered many lives, persecuted many religious groups in order to retain their power, so this plague made her realize the evil nature of the CCP. She hopes more people will understand and keep away from the CCP.

A Chinese student studying abroad in Italy recently posted online about his recent ordeals. Hoping to escape the virus, he flew back to China but was mysteriously infected with the CCP virus while being quarantined in Shanghai. Without his consent, the hotel he was quarantined in destroyed his personal belongings, including his passport, visa, his receipt to apply for the Italian residence permit, his enrollment documents to attend graduate school in September, an iPad that stored his illustrations, cash in Euros, as well as other important personal assets. The CCP virus, commonly known as the novel coronavirus, first originated in Wuhan, China. Because of the Chinese Communist Party’s cover-up and mishandling of the outbreak, the entire world is now suffering from this pandemic. Former Canadian Minister of Environment and Member of Parliament, Peter Kent, pointed out that this pandemic is pushing the international community to hold China accountable for the crisis, and called on the other world leaders to stop tolerating the evil deeds of the Chinese Communist regime.
Peter Kent: “The countries that have been dishonestly dealt with China in the past, but who now have had the terrible consequences of the virus.”
Presently, the international community demands compensation from China, and the former Canadian member of the Parliament, Peter Kent, believed that this is the result of the lies told by the CCP.
Peter Kent: “We still need to have the world, the international community, and the democracies come together and impose on the communist regime and accounting for what they have done finally. And again, the spark is the cruelty of this international tragedy of COVID-19 (CCP virus).”
Kent believes that the democratic countries need to unite together to fight against the CCP like they did when they fought against the Soviet Union in the Cold War. This is the way to dismantle an authoritarian regime.
Peter Kent: “In terms of international trade, if you do not respect a fair deal then we will not trade with you. The international community has to ask questions in international forums at the United Nations and at the World Health Organization. The democracies have to work together and bring to the consciousness of those in power in Beijing that the world will no longer tolerate this belligerent, imperial, brutal human rights abusing member of the international community.”
Being the Minister Shadow Cabinet of the opposition party, Kent criticizes the Liberal Party for being lenient in dealing with the CCP. He believes that Canada needs to review its relationship with China and to implement the Magnitsky Act to sanction those Chinese officials who commit human rights abuses.
Kent: “They say we have to maintain relations. They need to maintain relations by talking truth and talking honestly, and not pandering to a bully.”

Forty medical staff at the Xianyang Maternal and Child Health Hospital of Shaanxi Province were dismissed on April 30. They were asked to sign a statement of “voluntary resignation.”
Among them, 26 nurses had been to Hubei Province, the epicenter of the CCP virus, to fight the pandemic on the frontline. They have not received any bonuses so far for risking their lives; instead, what was waiting for them was a layoff disguised as “voluntary resignation.”
A medical professional of the hospital released a video on May 1, asking hospital authorities to give everyone a reasonable explanation.

“On May 1, Labor Day, a holiday that advocates for the protection of employees’ rights and interests, 40 medical staff from the Xianyang Maternal and Child Health Hospital received a ‘resignation application’ that they were asked to sign. We originally thought this outbreak might be a turning point for medical staff to get better wages and earn more respect, but the reality has taught us we were too naive. We were hailed as heroes for a short period of time, but that did not bring any fundamental change.
“Within my network, I know that some nurses who have worked on the frontline have applied to change their status from temporary to permanent employees of the hospital, there are also frontline nurses whose only hope was to keep their jobs. We hope that Xianyang Maternal and Child Health Hospital will give us a reasonable explanation. Why did the hospital authorities decide to get rid of these medical staff who had been sent to the frontline of the pandemic?
“I also hope that the so-called ‘benefits’ we received when fighting the virus will not be the highest standard for us medical staff in this lifetime.”

The statement of “voluntary resignation” forced them to claim that “I want to resign due to personal reasons” and “I promise that I will not pursue any compensation from the hospital with any excuse.”
The hospital authorities announced on their official blog on April 30 that the layoff was a decision made in November last year in response to “shrinking operations,” and the execution had been delayed because of the CCP virus pandemic.
“Any distorted report about our layoff will likely be used by foreign anti-China forces to incite public opinion,” the hospital announcement wrote, as a warning message to anyone who attempts to question the layoffs.
In the chat message she showed in her video, a nurse complained that they worked 12 hours a day from January 25 to late March, but their wage was based on 8 hours a day, and the extra bonus for working on the frontline was only 100 yuan ($14.2) a month.

The “Zhongda Cloth Market” in Guangzhou is mainly a distribution center for various fabrics, yarn, and garments. Thousands of large and small factories gather nearby. For more than a decade, almost the entire 150,000 non-native population in this region have made a living by making clothes and processing accessories. When the business is good, their monthly income can exceed $10,000 yuan ($1,400 USD). Last year, however, orders were greatly reduced in the aftermath of the Sino-U.S. trade war. In the beginning of the year, due to the CCP virus outbreak, the manufacturers lost all their business.
On April 21 and 22, thousands of garment factory owners and merchants joined the march at the exit of the subway station near the market, shouting “reduce rent, reduce rent” along the way. They demanded government intervention to reduce their rents after they had no income for three months since February. Police cars arrived at the scene and policemen came to block the road. Conflicts continue to break out.

On April 27, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) decided to cancel their purchase of CCP virus rapid test kits from China. Joint Secretary of Health Ministry, Lav Agarwal said, “Many states have responded that the test kits are faulty, prompting the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) to immediately take action.
“We have canceled the order and have not yet made payments to those organizations.”
According to news reports, India ordered five million units of the rapid test kits made by Guangzhou Wondfo Biotech and Zhuhai Livzon Diagnostics in April. It was alleged that these test kits were able to produce rapid test results through blood samples, and could test for infection history and identify asymptomatic carriers.
A Rajasthan official, however, responded that multiple tests conducted on confirmed CCP virus carriers produced false negative results. The testing revealed that the batch of test kits had a mere 5 percent accuracy rate.
Since late March, medical supplies sold to Europe, Asia, and various regions in the Middle East have frequently been returned due to similar quality issues.
The Ambassador of Italy to the United States, Armando Varricchio, said that more and more countries are becoming aware that, at the time when countries are in urgent need of medical supplies, the CCP takes advantage of the opportunity to promote its image to increase its global influence.
Varricchio said, “We, in Italy, don’t want to fall into this sort of trap.
“We are fully aware that we should not try to buy into a narrative that might fall under the umbrella of, you know, public diplomacy. We are not naive, and we understand very well.“

The western world is now more and more alert about the cultural infiltration coming from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Recently, U.S. Senator Ted Cruz proposed a new bill aimed at blocking the infiltration from the CCP in Hollywood and restoring the tradition of American films promoting the right values.
On April 28, Senator Ted Cruz introduced a new bill called “SCRIPT Act”, which stands for “Stopping Censorship, Restoring Integrity, Protecting Talkies”. The goal of the bill is to prevent the Department of Defense from giving technological assistance and authorizing the use of assets to movie companies and film studios that accommodate to Chinese censorship. Normally, Hollywood films that wish to portray real military plots would seek assistance from the Pentagon.
Ted Cruz tweeted the following on April 28: “For too long, Hollywood has been complicit in China’s censorship and propaganda in the name of bigger profits. The SCRIPT Act will serve as a wake-up call by forcing Hollywood studios to choose between the assistance they need from the American government and the dollars they want from China.”
The CCP has been infiltrating the film industry for a long time. Soviet Union leader, Joseph Stalin, once said he did not need anything else to transform the entire world into communism if he had control over American film media.
A typical example of Chinese regime’s great foreign policy is the movie theater operator of Wanda Group, owned by Wang Jian-Lin. As a businessman, he claimed to have a close relationship with the Chinese regime. From his acquisitions of American Multi-Cinema (AMC Theaters), Carmike Cinemas, the second largest movie exhibitor in Australia, The Hoyts Group, to the acquisition of the largest cinema group in Europe, Odeon and UCI Cinema Group, Wang’s corporation controls about 20% of the world’s big screens.
Commentator on current affairs, Zhao Pei, said, “In addition to Wang Jian-Lin’s Wanda Group, Alibaba is also doing the same thing in the film industry. During the process of building the corporation, Wang Jian-Lin once said that he would not show movies that criticize the Chinese regime suppressing human rights. For instance, movies involving live organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners have no chances at his theaters because he is not going to show the Americans all the nasty things done by the CCP. Therefore, he is simply a chess piece on a chess board played by the CCP, and when we look at the bigger picture, he is just the equivalent of Phoenix TV in Hong Kong.”
The owner of Phoenix TV in Hong Kong, Liu Chang-Le, has Chinese military background and is considered an overseas branch of the Chinese state-run media.
Senator Ted Cruz also proposed to ban Chinese propaganda directed to Americans using Mexican and Canadian radio stations, and further pointed out that Hong Kong’s Phoenix TV is sending out political propaganda in the U.S. through a radio station in Mexico. These new bills are a part of the campaign launched by Senator Ted Cruz to confront the CCP’s infiltration in American culture and education.

On April 28, U.S. Senators Marco Rubio, Ben Cardin, Jim Risch, and Bob Menendez, and Representatives James McGovern, Chris Smith, Eliot Engel, and Michael McCaul, sent a letter urging Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to fully implement the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act. The members expressed in the letter, that Hong Kong’s situation had been deteriorating in recent months, and the Chinese Communist Party had been continuing to accelerate its efforts to undermine Hong Kong’s economy and the rule of law.
On April 18, the Hong Kong police arrested 15 democracy activists, including prominent lawyer Martin Lee; former member of Hong Kong Legislative Council, Margaret Ng; Founder of Apple Daily, a Hong Kong based newspaper, Jimmy Lai, etc. Luo Huining, the Director of the Liason Office made a statement before the arrest, which outsiders conceive as an act to re-advocate for Article 23 legislation.
The members wrote in a letter: “CCP officials are advocating for Article 23 legislation, which would further restrict freedom and autonomy in service of Beijing’s definition of national security”. “Hong Kong’s future is of great importance to the United States and to the international community. Failing to address Beijing’s efforts to erode Hong Kong’s autonomy will undermine the freedom and human rights of its people, its valuable role as a partner to the United States, and its unique role in the international economy.” Last year, President Trump signed the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act. The passage of the bill requires the U.S. Secretary of State to issue an annual certification of Hong Kong’s autonomy to justify special treatment afforded to Hong Kong by the U.S.

The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom published its annual report on Tuesday, announcing that China is listed as a ‘country of particular concern’ (CPC) for serious violations of religious freedom for the 21st consecutive year.
The Chairman of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, Tony Perkins, stated, “The evidence is overwhelming that China abuses human rights on a systematic basis and religious freedom is chief among the targets.”
According to reports, the situation of religious freedom in China continued to deteriorate in 2019. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) constructed a country with a high technology surveillance system that uses facial recognition and artificial intelligence to spy on religious groups.
Tony Perkins continued, “We see Falun Gong which is another religious minority that is suppressed in China, and in fact, linked to forced organ harvesting. What I have seen is very reliable evidence shows that has become a big business in China and it’s primarily through these political-religious prisoners that this is taking place.”
The report mentioned particularly the CCP’s pressure on the United Nations and foreign governments and the exporting of surveillance technology and systems training to more than 100 countries to undermine religious freedom on an international level.
Tony Perkins: “That’s extremely important to understand because some of this technology has been facilitated by American companies. Now it’s being exported from China now that it is being perfected.”
The report made several recommendations to the U.S. government, including sanctions against CCP agencies and Chinese officials that have been a part of serious violations of religious freedom. Some of these include seizing personal assets or banning entry to the U.S., also naming Chen Quan-Guo, who is currently the Communist Party Secretary of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, and Zhu Hai-Lun, former Deputy Party Secretary of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. To counteract the CCP’s influence, the U.S. government has reinforced its diplomatic efforts.
In January 2020, the Department of State appointed Mark Lambert as Special Envoy to counter the CCP’s “malicious influence” at the UN.

Harbin, the capital city of Heilongjiang Province in northeastern China, has seen a rapid increase of CCP virus patients.
According to Chinese state media, Harbin authorities ordered all communities to forbid entry to all outside individuals and vehicles. Many believe these measures mirror the city-wide lockdown imposed on Wuhan three months before.
The following is a video collection from four different locations in Harbin.
