Underwater Magma ‘Anomaly’ Found Beneath Yellowstone Supervolcano

They suggest this ‘long, thin, sloping zone’ is filled with unusually warm material and forms parts of a mantle plume that stretches all the way from Mexico.

The researchers calculated that the mantle is hotter than any of its surroundings, reaching temperatures of around 600 to 800 degree Celsius (1,100-1,450°F).

This hot column may be enough to drive surface activity at the park, scientists said, and may explain a recent increase in volcanic activity in the area.

Man-Made “STAR’ to Plummet to Earth Tomorrow, Months Earlier Than Expected

It seems all good things must come to an end, including space disco parties.

After drifting through space for mere months, the man-made Humanity Star is expected to plunge back down to Earth in a fiery descent.

The glittering satellite, referred to by some as a ‘beacon for all humanity,’ was launched into orbit in January and slated to orbit the Earth for about nine months.

Now, it seems the object is making an early exit.

It’s likely to reenter Earth’s atmosphere in less than 14 hours, according to Rocket Lab, the New Zealand-based company behind the Humanity Star.

China to Target Trump’s Base In Tariff Response

The White House plans to announce punitive measures against China on Thursday, including tariffs on at least $30 billion in imports. Those are in addition to the steel and aluminum tariffs taking effect Friday.

In response, China is likely to target U.S. exports of soybeans, sorghum and live hogs, according to the people with knowledge of the matter. The U.S. is among the top suppliers of these products to China, which imports around a third of soybeans that the U.S. produces, data from the two countries show.

Officials in downtown Globe were evacuating buildings Wednesday after an unidentified substance ‘that is considered potentially volatile’ was discovered, a city spokesperson says.

The Globe Fire Department has evacuated all buildings in Downtown Globe from Sycamore to Mesquite Streets and Pine To Hill Streets.

Particularly Dangerous Situation: Severe Weather Outbreak With Tornadoes, Large Hail In Southeast

An outbreak of severe thunderstorms will erupt across parts of the Southeast through Tuesday, not only with the more typical threats of large hail and damaging winds, but also a threat of tornadoes, some of which could be strong tornadoes.

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has placed portions of northern Alabama, southern Middle Tennessee and northwestern Georgia under a “moderate risk” of severe weather through Monday night. This is the second-highest risk category that can be issued by the SPC.

UNESCO Warns Easter Island Statues Could Be Lost to Sea, Hidden History

Easter Island, the remote volcanic island home of nearly 900 ancient monumental statues, is at risk of disappearing into the sea, according to the latest report from UNESCO.
The world heritage body blamed rising tides, which have been rapidly eroding the island’s coasts for years. However, the group is now warning that rising sea levels could completely destroy the island’s iconic ‘heads.’

“Some Easter Island statues are at risk of being lost to the sea because of coastal erosion,” said Adam Markham, deputy director of the Climate and Energy Program at the Union of Concerned Scientists and lead author of the report.

US President Donald Trump has signed into law a bill which aims to deepen ties between the US and Taiwan. China has issued multiple warnings to both Washington and Taipei over the law.
The Taiwan Travel Act (HR 535), which US lawmakers presented to Trump on March 5, aims to increase travel and visits “at all levels,” including state officials and business leaders, both on the American and the Taiwanese side.

China’s ‘Leviathon’ Group Targeting US Ships Around South China Sea

According to new research, a Chinese cyber network is increasingly targeting US engineering and maritime entities, especially those connected to issues with the contested South China Sea, where the US has a military presence.
FireEye, a California-based security firm, stated on Friday that a Chinese espionage group known as ‘Leviathon’ or ‘TEMP. Periscope’ has ramped up tracking efforts against US entities.

China Will Ban People With Poor ‘Social Credit’ from Planes and Trains

Starting in May, Chinese citizens who rank low on the country’s burgeoning “social credit” system will be in danger of being banned from buying plane or train tickets for up to a year, according to statements recently released by the country’s National Development and Reform Commission.

With the social credit system, the Chinese government rates citizens based on things like criminal behavior and financial misdeeds, but also on what they buy, say, and do. Those with low “scores” have to deal with penalties and restrictions. China has been working towards rolling out a full version of the system by 2020, but some early versions of it are already in place.
