Wells Fargo says it is nearing completion of an expanded analysis to try to find instances in which its employees might have opened unauthorized customer accounts, which could lead to additional refunds.

In a letter to employees, CEO Tim Sloan said the third-party analysis could be completed within a “few weeks,” covering 2009 to 2016, and that the number of customers involved is likely to grow.

“The results of our reviews will generate news headlines, but even as we face this renewed coverage, the best thing we can do is stay focused on fixing problems, making things right for customers and building a better, stronger Wells Fargo,” Sloan wrote.

The disclosure that Wells Fargo employees opened accounts for patrons that they had not authorized has proven to be a huge black eye for the bank. And the scandal has dragged on.

Sloan said researchers are looking for “potentially unauthorized” accounts — those in which customers may not clearly remember if they authorized them — and that the bank will err “on the side of customers” when it comes to refunds.

So far, he says that San Francisco-based bank has refunded about $5 million in addition to having reached a $142 million class-action suit settlement.

I HAVE TALKED WITH A COUPLE OF LAWYERS DIRECTLY INVOLVED AND THEY HAVE STATED THAT THEY HAVE CLOSED AND PEOPLE PAID. WE DID NOT HEAR MUCH ON THE OTHER END, SO I ATTRIBUTE THAT THAT TO STRICT NON-DISCLOSURE AGREEMENTS.

SO TO ANSWER A FEW OF YOU, YES IT IS ALL COMING TRUE. THERE WILL BE FUNDS ON A LARGE SCALE COMING OUT TO YOU AND THE ECONOMIES.

THIS IS THE WHOLE PURPOSE OF THE RELEASES. WHAT OTHER WAY CAN YOU GET TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS OUT INTO THE ECONOMIES SAFELY IN A MEASURED WAY SO AS NOT TO CREATE CHAOS AND RUIN PEOPLE.

ON OUR SIDE, WE ARE ALMOST THERE. WE WERE TO GET OUR FIRST FUNDS YESTERDAY (YES I CAN TALK A LITTLE NOW). HOWEVER, THE TYPHOON HATO IN HONG KONG CLOSED THE BANKS AND DELAYED US…AGAIN. AND THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO ABOUT IT. THAT ONE WAS A FORCE 10 WITH MAX WINDS AT 223 KPH. IT CAUSED OVER 8 BILLION IN DAMAGE IN HONG KONG (PRELIMINARY TALLY).

WE WERE ALL COUNTING ON THESE FIRST FUNDS TO GIVE US RELIEF UNTIL THE MAJOR PROJECT FUNDS HIT, BUT AGAIN THE FORCES OUT THERE DECIDED WE HAVE TO GRIT OUR TEETH A LITTLE BIT MORE. IT IS SOO DIFFICULT TRYING TO MAINTAIN STABILITY AND KEEP EVERYBODY ON THE TEAM FED AND UNDER A ROOF. FEW PEOPLE HAVE ANY IDEA HOW HARD THAT IS.

WE HAVE ALSO RECEIVED EMAILS FOR GIVING HELP RATHER THAN RECEIVING IT, AND YES WE WILL HELP SHORTLY. I HAVE ANSWERED A FEW OF THESE AND REST ASSURED THAT THE MOMENT WE HAVE ANYTHING, WE WILL SHARE. THIS IS WHAT WE ARE GEARED FOR AND THIS IS WHAT WE DO.
