‘This is terror attack’: 1000s protest highest female victim tally in years in Israel

Some 30,000 demonstrators protested against femicide at Tel Aviv’s Rabin Square on Tuesday, calling on the government to take action against gender-based violence and provide state funding to tackle the issue.

The demonstration was part of a nationwide strike against violence towards women, launched by several municipalities, companies and women’s groups throughout Israel following the suspected murders of two teenage girls last week.

The killings have brought the number of female victims since the beginning of the year to 24, which is the highest tally in years.

“Unfortunately, this year, 24 women were murdered by a man and we are calling to the government to do something with this unbelievable number,” said one of the participants.
