Two days after the WSJ confirmed Maduro’s earlier threat that he would stop accepting US Dollars as payment for crude oil imports, Venezuela has done just that.
As a reminder, and as we reported previously, in an effort to circumvent U.S. sanctions, Venezuela told oil traders that it will no longer receive or send payments in dollars. As a result, oil traders who export Venezuelan crude or import oil products into the country have begun converting their invoices to euros.

North Korea has fired a ballistic missile, which reportedly passed through Japan’s airspace near Hokkaido, triggering a public alert. It’s believed to have fallen in the Pacific Ocean some 2,000 km east of the island.
“North Korea fired an unidentified missile eastward from the vicinity of Pyongyang this morning,” the JCS said. The missile reached an altitude of 770 km and covered a distance of 3,700 km before falling into the ocean, according to South Korea’s military.

The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has ordered all government agencies to “develop plans to remove” all “information security products, solutions, and services” produced by Kaspersky Lab, the Russian multinational cybersecurity and anti-virus provider.
The DHS issued a Binding Operational Directive (BOD) that calls “on departments and agencies to identify any use or presence of Kaspersky products on their information systems” and “to develop detailed plans to remove and discontinue present and future use of the products,” giving them 90 days to comply with the order.

The federal government is worried some refrigerators and coffee pots could pose a national security risk, and it’s taking action.
Colorado’s U.S. Senator Cory Gardner among a bi-partisan group of senators who are sponsoring legislation to secure the so-called Internet of Things – everyday devices that are embedded with computer chips and sensors.
Gardner says those devices can be used as weapons of mass disruption.
“The federal government orders billions of dollars worth of Internet of Things devices each and every year,” says Gardner. “These are things that can be hacked into. You can try to control systems, instruments with them. You can certainly read what people are doing and maybe even eavesdrop on a conversation people are having.”

Archaeologists in Egypt have uncovered the ancient tomb of a royal goldsmith and jeweler containing mummies, believed to be his family members, and treasure more than three millennia old.
The haul of jewelry, statues and ancient sarcophagi, the traditional anthropomorphic coffins used in the time of the pharaohs, were found in the Luxor’s Valley of the Kings. It appears to have belonged to a dignitary identified as Amenemhat.
