Something odd happened late in the day in Wednesday’s trading session, which prompted a number of people to mail in comments or ask a question or two. Since we have discussed this issue previously, we decided this was a good opportunity to briefly elaborate on the topic again in these pages.
A strong ADP jobs report for March was released on Wednesday, and the gold price dutifully declined ahead of it already, while the stock market surged concurrently. Later in the day, the Fed minutes were published, and their tone was definitely seen as very “hawkish”, at least by today’s standards.
There was quite a bit of talk about rate hikes and – gasp! – even about ending reinvestment of funds the Fed receives when debt securities in its QE portfolio mature. The merry pranksters also bemoaned the egregious bubble their own policies have given birth to.
“Most Federal Reserve policymakers think the U.S. central bank should take steps to begin trimming its $4.5 trillion balance sheet this year as long as the economic data holds up, Fed meeting minutes showed.
The minutes also showed “some participants viewed equity prices as quite high relative to standard valuation measures.” [duh…]

Talk about “balance sheet normalization” – with the added twist that “most” committee members seemed to think it was an idea whose time had come – apparently was indeed a bit of a surprise to market participants, who probably (and quite reasonably) assumed it would never happen. Not surprisingly, they have already gotten over the “shock” as of Thursday’s trading, but in this case, their initial reaction actually made sense…

President Trump Raises the Stakes With China Will President Xi Jinping Fold or Call to See if it’s a Bluff
Has President Trump turned on the very values that got him elected to office by caving to the establishment and becoming part of the swamp that he promised to drain? The attack on Syria was orchestrated during the talks to act as a surprise show of force with an attempt to intimidate China over the North Korean and China Sea area militarization issues. How China reads and reacts to the strike on Syria remain to be seen. China could double down and become more forceful by standing up to President Trump on North Korea and the islands militarization. President Xi just departed from the two day meeting with President Trump without having a press conference. We will have to wait to get his views on how the meeting went.
According to US Secretary of State Tillerson stated, “President Trump indicated to President Xi …we would be happy to work with them, but we understand it creates unique problems for them and challenges and that we would and are prepared to chart our own course if this is something China is just unable to coordinate with us,” after their meeting.
The Russian Kremlin stated on April 7th, “The President of Russia regards the US airstrikes on Syria as an act of aggression against a sovereign state delivered in violation of international law under a far-fetched pretext…” also President Putin had conducted a telephone call with Prime Minister Netanyahu on April 6th, “…exchanged views on the incident involving chemical weapons on April 4 in the Syrian province of Idlib. Mr Putin underscored, in particular, that it is unacceptable to make groundless accusations against any party until a thorough and objective international investigation has been conducted…”
Further the Russian Foreign Ministry released a Statement on 7 April stating, “However, we will never agree to unsanctioned action against the legitimate Syrian government that has been waging an uncompromising war on international terrorism for a long time…Russia suspends the Memorandum of Understanding on Prevention of Flight Safety Incidents in the course of operations in Syria signed with the US…”
The Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying stated during her press conference on April 7th and when asked about the building on artificial islands, “The deployment of necessary national defense facilities is for the aim of safeguarding China’s own territory…” On Syria she stated, “The Chinese side upholds the principle of non-interference in others’ domestic affairs. We believe that the future of Syria should be left in the hands of the Syrian people themselves… We respect the Syrian people’s choice of their own leaders and development path…”

On Tuesday, April 4th Breitbart reported:
A massive chemical weapons attack hit an area of the northern Idlib province in Syria on Tuesday, followed by a bombing run on hospitals where victims were undergoing treatment. According to Fox News and the Associated Press, Syrian medical relief organization UOSSM reported least 100 people were killed and 400 more injured. Some other estimates put the death toll as low as 57. The London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights added that at least 11 children were among the dead.
The following day President Donald Trump appeared to do an about face regarding Syria and its embattled President Bashar al-Assad. As recorded by The Guardian:
Donald Trump has described the chemical attack in Idlib province which killed more than 70 people as an “affront to humanity”, but offered little clue to any new strategy to end the violence in Syria. The New York Times reported:
About 60 U.S. Tomahawk missiles hit the Shayrat air base, southeast of Homs, a small installation with two runways, where aircraft often take off to bomb targets in northern and central Syria. The U.S. missiles hit at 3:45 a.m. Friday morning and targeted the base’s airstrips, hangars, control tower and ammunition areas, U.S. officials said.
They were fired from two warships in the Mediterranean Sea, in retaliation for Tuesday’s deadly chemical attack that officials said used chlorine mixed with a nerve agent, possibly sarin.
A military official quoted on Syrian TV said an air base in central Syria was hit early Friday, causing material damage. Another statement, also attributed to an unnamed official, referred to “losses.” The officials did not elaborate….

Most people do not realize that when they turn on the television in their home, what they see as a constant flow of images is actually flickering and although we do not recognize this consciously, the repetitive pattern of flickering images creates a state that is similar to hypnosis in the television viewer.

What if, after the chemical attack, Putin secretly calls Trump and tells him that all the chemical weapons had been removed from Assad, and that any chemical weapons assessment was either false or they hit an ISIS controlled chemical storage fascility.
So Trump and Putin and Assad agree to stage the missile attacks, making sure no Syrians were in the targeted spots, and supposedly sends 59 missiles, not all of them making to the target, and failing to destroy the #1 target, the runways….
Out come the neocons in support of Trump, right out in the open. McCain, even Graham said he was proud of Trump (lol).
